one of the injector lines on the injector pump popped out on my way home tonight. The whole area is coated with fuel and it's obviously only running on five cylinders now. The nut that holds the line on is still on the pump, and the line isn't. Is this common, or did the line give? do I need a new one? seems like to much pressure would be the only thing that would make her POP! Any thoughts?

Wow, I've never heard of that before.

Yeah, you need a new line. I'd have to say it was defective, and just waited until it had enough vibration to let go.

How many miles are on your truck? Are you the original owner? Do you know if the lines have ever been tweaked or bent to get access to another engine component?

The injector may have a problem. If it is like the injectors in a 12 valve it has a relief valve that bleeds fuel into a pipe that returns excess fuel to the fuel system. If that is plugged you may get excess pressure in the injector line.

Sorry to hear that.

In addition to the above posts, check to make sure that the injector line clamps are all in place and tight. The fuel pulses from the injection pump cause the injector lines to expand and contract with each cylinder firing event. This puts great stress on the injector lines and the lines can break over time, especially if the injector lines are not clamped down as designed. Also make certain that the insulator pads are in place between the clamps and the lines.

redbadge, you are correct. I didn't follow the line up to the injector till today, but guess whats missing... the line clamp  So, now we got her figured out. Any way, it's the line for cylinder one. Any thoughts what I should expect to pay? Thanks for all your help guys.

Alot, and if you go to Dodge expect to buy 6 of them. Try calling around to people like Peirs and see if they might have the one you need lying around.

Better to treat the cause than just the symptom. Glad you found out what caused the problem CrazieAbe and that I could be of help by sharing what others have shared with me.

:--) I noticed my clamp/brace was missing a while back (not quite sure why). :--)

I thought it was just there to make assembly of the lines easier, obviously it serves a much greater purpose.

I'll be ordering a new one next week, but from where?

Thanks for posting this, I'm sure you saved me from eventually having the same problem.

well, here's the down low, dodge wanted 160 for the line, if I set up an account it would've been 130. I called cummins in white bear lake, just so happens I have an account there thru work. Turns out, they had the line in stock, Dodge didn't. I got my line for fifty bucks and the "vibration isolator, screw, and brace for another twenty. so seventy bucks wasn't half bad. Then when I got home I thought to check all my other lines out. About half of the other isolators are missing too! So, My advice, everyone go home and check there isolators out. There is alot more of them than I thought, till I saw the diagram that dodge and cummins gave me. You guys got me back on the road fast, thanks a bunch ;)
