Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) injector nozzles

hey diesel guys and gals, wondering about injector nozzles. are they just as easy to change as injectors. or is this opening a new can of worms. .

Not hard to change, but without a test stand to pop test the nozzle in the injector body, you are taking a crap shoot if you end up having troubles and wondering if they are good or not. Alot of folks will tell you they have never had a problem chaning nozzles, but I'd rather not have to wonder 'what if' for every subtle change the new injectors introduce to your motor.



A diesel shop can pop test them for you after you swap the nozzles, but now you are spending about as much $ as the difference in buying the nozzles already installed and tested. Plus you have to run them down to the shop while your truck sits down without injectors.



I'd recommend getting them already installed in the body, but since that's what I did I guess I'm biased.

Hi

I did mine and I'm only a partime wrench, but I've

worked on injectors before and if you haven't you might

wanna find a freind or a CTD work party to help you do them.

I'm sure there's something like that in Minnesota.

Anyways I had mine pop tested too, for free at local

injection shop. One was out of tolerence, he said I

wouldn't know the difference. Well I said fix it, he said $38

for one injector, oh well at least I know its right.

And so far so good, ain't drove it much, just tested it.



PS: There are some special tools too, but just for the lines.

Look for injector install and they'll tell you what U need.

As a pro wrench, I know it aint right, but Bosio adverises their nozzels will be dead nuts in your injectors-- no need for "pop- test". I guess that assumes youve got good injectors in the first place.....

I agree with the others, I carry the edge nozzles and would not tell anyone to just slap them in with out pop testing them. If a company is telling you not to pop test them look elsewhere.

In their defense they say you CAN, but dont HAVE to test. I never read any testimonials or anything, but that does seem like a silly idea to me. What if you DID have a weak injector-- youd just be throwing it back in the hole none the wiser.....



As for the cost Im with mroidt-- inexpensive at least and free at best! It helps to know people!

You may be surprised at just how infrequently the Bosio nozzles require adjustment. We used to insist that most of the VW injectors get tested after installing new nozzles, but after a few hundred that were dead nuts on we realized there was something interesting happening. OF course you should get them tested, if for no other reason than to make sure there are no leaks. But the vast majority won't need any adjustment.

I have the Bosio nozzels and just love them. It was an easy install. The truck now runs smoother,smokes less,makes less noise at idle,and the fuel milage went up just a little. KERMA sells a good product. Dont be affraid of the nozzel option.

Im thinking bosio is the way im gonna go when i get around to upgrading stix. It looks like they put quality up front. (but i cant just install without checking evrything first. It just dont FEEL right! Plus Im only checking six -i hope- and not hundreds )

I would highly recomend have the injectors pop tested after installing new tips. Pop off pressure is affected by the nozzle tip and the body tolerances.
