My truck started to develop a miss at low to mid RPMs' and smoking more than usual, so took it in and had the dealership check it out. They hooked it up to the computer and did a diagnostic test for about 45 minutes. When the service manager brought the truck back up to the front, he said the mechanic told him that the test showed number 1 cylinder at 64% and number 2 at 78%. He didn't know exactly what this meant, but told me to bring it back monday for service. I don't see how they could check the internal efficiency of the cylinder without a compression test, so is this reading from the injectors?

Yes, more than likely they were taking about the injectors in those cylinders.

I'm not sure how they define the percentage for an injector. I mean, I don't know to what it's referenced.

I hope it is just the injectors. It smokes like a freight train a low rpm's then clears up on top. This is with the TST & BLCL completely off. But over last couple of weeks it has gotten worse. No fuel in the oil yet.

Thats a good one... TST and BLCL installed and he wants his injectors replaced under warranty. . what ever happened to "I am my own warranty station". Dam I've been around here to long. :)

Take a look at TSB 14-003-05. It specifically states not to use the "cylinder Performance Test" on the DRBIII as it will result in unnecessary injector replacement. And besides that, STAR will not give him an injector unless he runs the tests properly.

There are plenty of injector problems on stock trucks. There is a good chance the TST and BDDL had nothing to do with it.

So... is there anyone out there who wouldn't take warrantied injectors from their good buddy who happens to be the dealer??

It would go like this.

DEALER: "We are going to warranty 2 bad injectors on your truck. "

CUSTOMER: "No thanks, I am my own warranty station!!"

DEALER: "Seriously you have two bad injectors that we will replace under warranty"

CUSTOMER:"Aren't you listening? I am my own warranty station, I'll buy 'em and install 'em myself. "

I'll bet that scenario happens everyday.

I was just curious as to what they tested.

As far as the warranty goes, I give the dealership plenty a free advertisement, especially when all they can see is the dealerships' tag on my tailgate!
