I have a 1996 12 valver with 103,000 miles. Runs great. Better than new with the #8 plate. I know that they say the engine can go 3 or 4 hundred thousand miles before a rebuild but what is the life expectancy of the injectors, injection pump, and lift pump. Can they go that long? How about the turbo?

I began bombing at around 157,000 miles, and have 166,500 miles on it now... HX-35 Just bit the dust, on 9-14-01... . HOWEVER, I do think so far I hold the record for a stock HX35-12 with #11, boost elbow, and 191's, reaching 48 PSI! HX40 is on the way from PDR, and I CANT WAIT!!!! lol, so I can only help you with the turbo bit. I know my truck had a new P7100 installed before I bought it at 84,700 mi, so lucky me, I guess!

the p-pump is a 1,000,000 mile pump. they run and run, ... . but the key is run efficiently. They will run for a million miles, but at a certain point linkage gets loose and needs to be put on a stand and adjusted. No idea on the lift pump, and the injectors should be changed, rebuilt when the motor is rebuilt. My buddy, (jrobinson1) has over 500,000 miles one of his dodge cummins trucks, ... i believe its a '97. Maybe he'll ring in here and give a little more info.

The TDR did a story about a year or 2 ago about some guy who put 1. 1 million miles on his Dodge Cummins. It was a great and informative article. In it the author gave info on miles to failure on various parts.

If memory serves correctly

Injector pump went 750,000 miles

Alternators went 300,000

Starters about 500,000

cant remember the rest but motor was still running at 1. 1 million on original build with low power and using oil.

Does any one else remember this story?

Rebsram: Is that my cue to repond?

Self '97 2500 268k No problems (besides fuel line leaks) getting 21 -22 highway @ 65 Replace clutch (Joe reminded me... overflow valve replaced recently)

Mom 97 3500 510k auto No Problems ~18 - 20 mpg. New transmission

I concur they may need a tuneup after a couple hundred thou but that is to be determined. Runing poorly will probably only make engine a little rough and lose some fuel economy. I may have a leaky seal around my shutoff solenoid lever. Nothing major, weeps a little oil maybe a drop every 100 miles. Maybe it coming from elsewhere.

They are oil lubed not fuel so low lube fuel don't tend to hurt them too much if at all.

Heck similar design to an engine (cam pistons valves) with out the heat and explosive pressures, just pushing liquid. Millions of miles probably with a little care and adjustment every once in a while.

The Green Monster turned 200K today. Still running great. Smooth as silk. I keep hopeing that the injectors will get bad or something so I can talk myself into getting a bigger set. A few fuel leaks and a weak overflow valve are all the engine problems so far.
