I posted awhile back about a "wet spot" under my truck, drivers side near front of the engine. Took it in for service and the dealer says it is a leaky injector pump. New pump will be here on Monday.

Symptons were the obvious fluid on the ground and rough starts after pickup sat for extended periods of time. There was never alot of fuel on the ground so I assume the pump does not hold to much fuel

Truck is bone stock so no warranty issues! Oo.

Anyone else loose a injector pump????

I had mine replaced back in Feb. because it was leaking. I was under the truck the other day and know this one is leaking 32,000 miles. I guess its back to the dealer. :(

Replaced mine at 149,000 miles. Never leaked, just quit. Driving down the road at 65 mph and it was like you turned off the key. Never hit a lick again until the high pressure pump was replaced.

Does anybody make a better aftermarket injection pump? I think mine is leaking and with the posts I have read, I don't know if I want to put the same one back in.

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the CP-3 design (I don't think). The problem is in the lift pump and the factory installation of the CP-3.

The injection pumps on my truck all leaked. They never quit working. In the long term, I don't know if I want to own a truck past 100,000 with this problem.

If you're on your 3rd CP-3 and they have all leaked, it has got to be an installation problem. Did the same place do all 3 installs? Are they aware of the cleanliness requirements when working with these fuel systems? Are they over-torquing the fittings?

-Ryan

Yes the same dealer did all 3 injection pump installs. They say they have the the best man on the job. I don't know if it is a torque spec causing the leak. Every pump leaked from the plugs that look like a freeze plug.

I was told my pump was leaking on my truck, while waiting for one I happen to be under the hood with the truck running and it looked like the fuel canister was wet. I broke out the wrench and sure enough the fuel filter was loose and leaking. Tighten it up, wiped her down, no more leak.

Good luck

The pump on my truck was replaced at 149,000 miles and I rolled over 180,000 miles today. It has never leaked and has not given me anymore problems. I agree with rbattelle, it has to be an installation problem.

Of course they say that. It's not like they'd say "every Tuesday we go down to the bus station and bring back a random drifter to come install our injector pumps for the week". :-laf

I'm just saying, you are one person and one truck and you've had 3 CP-3's go bad on you. I don't think there's another soul on this board who's had that kind of failure rate. To me, that says either it's being messed up on install or there's something else wrong with your truck that's killing CP-3's.

It was pointed out to me recently that this post comes across condescending, sarcastic, and generally in poor form. I wish to publicly apologize to anyone whom I may have offended. My intent was not at all condescending or "mean spirited"... I was actually trying to be funny. I never intended to insult anyone or "talk down" to anyone, I was simply pointing out things as I saw them. I cannot emphasize enough that I am not being "mean" at all in this post, nor can I apologize enough to anyone who was offended. It is unfortunate that usually our mood or "tone" cannot come across effectively via the typewritten word.

I guess that's what is wrong with mine, just dropped it off yesterday and now calling for major snow over the weekend... Guess I'll be sitting home

Does Cummins or Dodge Reps monitor this page?

I am in the same spot now, just got a call from the dealership. They ordered it from Detroit this morning and said I won't see the pump until next week if I am lucky. This sucks, what kind of company doesn't allow their dealerships to keep a component in stock that shows this amount of failures. . Damn I am so mad right now I am thinking of trading in and going back to gas motor, maybe even a Chevy...

DC really doesn't care about the inconvenience to the owners. Their problem is that they will not admit that they have a problem. If the lift pump is weak that will kill the cp3. Sooner or later they will wise up & use a more efficient fuel filter. 10 micron is just stupid in a system with such tight tolerances. If anyone loses their lift pump & is past warranty you can get the same pump at a jobber for half the cost the dealer charges. (same part number on the pump)

Well it seems I was wrong... I got a call from my mechanic yesterday, your truck is done. . They ordered the pump on Wed morning and I picked my truck up Thursday evening... WOW!!! I must be one of the lucky one's... . D'Ambrosio of Elverson, PA is the bomb!!! I have never had a problem getting service or getting a great deal with these guys. . bought 3 trucks from them and one Jeep.

i don't think that these pumps are going bad it is my understanding that they just start leaking i will be having mine replace for the second time next week truck is a early 03 the pump has started leaking around every 30k miles truck now has close to 60k
