I have a 1992 Dodge cummins 4x4, had the pump rebuilt. Went to a highly recommended shop. Got the truck back, runs OK but I'm only getting 10 MPG now was getting 16 MPG. Waiting to hear back from the shop. What happen? What did they do to my truck? Any ideas or what to ask them.
Thanks

Its possible they adjusted the star wheel wrong, when I misadjusted mine the truck ran fine but was down on power and would only rev to 1800rpm.

Injector pump rebuild problem UP DATE

I took the truck back to the shop 12/15/2014 & told them to drive the truck and see. They have been checking things ? I sure wise I had my truck back ( its not my daily drive ) Any ideas, they seem to be at a loss. I want my 16 MPG back. Is that too much to ask for? What do you get in your trucks?
Thanks
Bill

Did you do the pump install or did they? They have had the truck since 12/15/14 - that is six weeks or am I missing something? The truck and the pumped have to be timed together when the pump is installed back on the vehicle.

Thanks for the replys, Before the rebuild 16 MPG after they installed the rebuilt pump and got it back the milage went down to 12-13 MPG. Took it back they did some adjustments and it went down to 9 MPG. Took it back again, they're checking everything the trans, rebuilt pump, and there OK, They wanted to replace the injectors, I said OK but if it didn't fix it I wasn't going to pay for the new ones. The injectors stayed. Joe is driving it around and it running fine, but he can only get 13.6 MPG. I/they need the diesel wizards help. I want my 16 MPG or better if possibe. The truck only has 100,000 mile on it.
Thanks

Did they actually retime it like was pointed out above, sounds like you may have to take it to another shop that knows what they are doing .

HI,

I would guess timing first and after that blame a faulty rebuild or a bad job putting stuff back together (i.e. getting dirt in the lines or even doing something to let air seep into the system).

Running empty (unless you are doing a lot of idle time) there should be no reason to get only 9 MPG....heck that's gasser territory!

Just curious but what "adjustments" did they do to get you from the 9 MPG mark up to 13+ MPG ? Whatever they did maybe they need to do it more to get the MPGs up...

On the flip side was it warm before your rebuild and cold after the rebuild? (weather / fuel can account for some loss in MPG's).

Hope this helps,

Andrew
