The injector pump on my 89 is going out. I took the truck by the injector shop last week and that is what they told me. I called them later that day and they said there was a screw with a locking nut on it on the back side of the pump and that if I turned the screw in it would increase the pressure inside the pump and extend the pump life. I can't find it, anyone know what they are talking about?

Thanks,

Naaaaaaaaaaa... ... ... ... ... ..... that's a new one on me, and I'll bet some of the other fella's too... .

The screw referred to is likely the "full fuel screw". It is on the rear/back of the pump. Look to the right of the domed top on the pump, just below the "U" shaped boost tube. You'll see a solenoid with 2 wires on it, and just toward the engine a bit more is the full fuel screw. It may still have a tamper cover on it though, maybe that's why you can't spot it.

You can see it here, in this picture...

That will increase the amount of fuel that is sent to the entire power band.

Normally altering that can, at some point, decrease pump life, not incease it... . at least as far as I know...

If your pump is on the way out, all you can do is run some good fuel additive to help with lubrication, and take it easy on the pump by avoiding lots of WOT blasts down the highway. .

Correct me if I'm wrong here guys... .....

bob.

FWIW, turning the full load screw does not have any direct effect on internal pump pressure. It does, however, increase the load on the cam plate and rollers. (assuming that the injectors are not changed)

The pressure regulator is located at the front of the pump, above the fuel supply line. You can see the pressure signal line from the KSB mechanism goes into the top of the regulator.
