I'm very new to diesel engines. What is the big difference between the first gen rotary pump and the p7100 pump. I was wondering today about swapping. What are the pro's and con's of each pump. I know the first gen pump can be turned up very easily. On the p7100 I believe you need to replace the torque plates or stops or something. Can anyone recommend a good book to learn about these engines, hopefully something Cummins related( I wouldn't even think of owning a non- Cummins. ) Thanks

Cummins only used the VE pumps in their diesels that were rated for 175 hp or below. The P7100 can deliver more fuel for the higher hp engines. The VE pump uses the fuel as a cooler/lubricant for the pump. The P7100 uses engine oil. It's not a simple swap. I don't know if any one on the list has done this.
