Planning to change my injectors on my 99 24v. Looked in service manual and found two tools to remove them are needed. Fuel injector remover # 8318 and Fuel injector tube/connector remover # 8324.

Does anyone know of any methods or other tools that may be substituted for these tools ?

Input appreciated.

All you need is a small standard blade screwdriver, and a longer screwdriver (to pry with).

Once you remove the valve cover and disconnect the fuel lines, and undo the injector, use a small screwdriver and pry the fuel connecting tubes (on the right side of head) out. They might stick a little, but THEY MUST BE REMOVED.

Once they are out, use on of the valve cover bolts and screw it into the top of the injector. Pry up on the screwdriver, and the injector will pop out. Becareful not to drop anything into the engine.

Press the new injector down, insert the fuel tube, connect all remaining hardware, and you are done.

You do not need those tools.

Thanks for the input. I will see if any money left after Xmas to buy injectors. Thinking about DD2's. Use truck mostly for towing a large fifthwheel.

I just installed my DonM 1. 5's yesterday... no special tools needed at all.

There is a great set of instructions on Diesel Dynamics web site.

I wanted a little more ooomph!! towing my fiver also... the 1. 5's are the ticket so far. Have not hooked up my fiver yet but there is alot of folks on this board who swear by Dons injectors.

Install went great and the truck fired on the first crank... . didn't even get a rough idle!

Do any of the '99s need new injector tubes? I found the following quote in my notes:

"You'll only need the connector tubes IF your engine serial is number 56462592 or earlier"

this was listed for sale; I have some used DD3s im swapping out for bigger squirters. They have less than 20k miles on them, all working great (no misfires). They will come with the directions to install and the copper O-rings. $350 obo

Thanks for input

I will check the TDR issue # 39 page 100 and refer to Diesel Dynamics web page. I believe I have the engine s/n recorded and will follow up on the tubes.

Thanks :)

ser. cutoff #

The serial number info I got on the cross tubes is any engine that was built prior to this number... ... 56462592. It is mainly all the early 98. 5's... . like mine... :(:(. So when I get around to changing my injectors I get to buy a new set of tubes... . but better than leaking fuel into the oil though. I did find a place that sells a set of 6 for around $80 if anyone needs some. Hope this helps you out. :-laf
