The good news is... I have a great dealer. The diagnosis was on Wed. , truck was ready Thurs afternoon with no kicking or screaming from me. I still find it absurd that dealers can not stock the parts we need. The first response from STAR was a 7 day wait. Fortunately that was circumvented somehow at the dealer level.

Not so good news... #5 tested weak, 88% may need replacement at some point but for now it seems to be running very well.

What dealer are you using in CO? I've been getting the run around with mine so far.

The noise was a knock ,cackle- clack, just off idle.
Mine does that but only when taking off for the first time when cold. If I let it warm up it won't do that. MPG's is good so I figured it as normal.

Let's see if I can make this make sense...

Injector #1 has an extra "banging" on the line. The vibration seems to be the same as the rest of the lines, but there's a definite bang on the line. I really wouldn't suggest it, but if I were to hold an egg against it, it would probably break it, it hits pretty hard.

What should line #1 feel like? Just a little vibration, maybe a little more than the rest? I gotta go to the dealer and get comp. reprog. for larger tires, I'll have them do the kill test at the same time.

The engine got louder at about 30K and I just thought it was finishing up breaking in and changing its noise. At the same time fuel economy went south, but that's when the weather turned colder as well. I just figured it was all just normal, then about a week ago or so I started feeling the lines.

Oh yeah, no smoke at startup, except when I don't plug it in.

I have done the samething with feeling the lines. Number 1 line hits harder than the others. Could it be a loose injector, bad injector, or normal. I think the truck has gotten louder, but then when it is warm out, I don't think it is. I make myself mental trying to find something wrong. UGH

Mine had rod knocking type sound just off idle at ~25,000 miles. Found to be #6 cylinder by deactivating. SWAPPED #6 with #3 injectors and problem is gone. Can't figure out why it would have fixed anything - but it did.

I was experiencing the same problem at about 15k miles. Dealer swapped (after 2 weeks of waiting on Star approval, finally they robbed a new truck on the lot so I could be on my way  ) Since the swap, I had DD3's put in, these seem to run better than my stockers... ;)

#1 injector at 3000 miles, #'3 and 5 at 10K. thinking about having the dealer just replacing the other 3 at is costs me 5 hours and a trailer rental every time I take it in.

My 04. 5 had problem at 350 miles sounded like a jack hammer under hood, and then went away after restat. Dealer did disnostic test showed NO errors and told me to drive it. At 385 miles #6 injector failed and burned hole in piston. New engine installed no problem sence.

To Mr. Moderator

Would it be possible to allow multiple voting on this poll so guys who have replaced more than one injector can vote for each one. I think it would be interesting to see what kind of a failure rate these lousy injectors are producing. I know it's not very scientific, but it would still be interesting. As if 13-14% isn't high enough

2146, 201, 202...finally

I did some stupid heavy towing this past week and I've finally got some good news. I'm finally getting some codes to go along with my suspicions. Three key thingy is kicking out codes 2146, 201, and 202. I've suspected an injector problem for the last 12k and it seems like the computer finally agrees. I'm assuming the codes are the same for the 04. 5's as the 03's, found the code list in FAQ section.

Did anyone else get these codes when you had your injector problems? 201-206 I think are for individual injectors. 2149 is also same as 2146-"group one" vs "group 2"

I have had three go bad. The last was changed at around 23,000 miles. I installed a AirDog at 24,000 miles and truck has been great ever since and now at 27,000 miles I'm starting to believe its all about better filtering.

Wanted any new guys to vote. Of course, if you already voted "NO" and have since had a failed injector, you can't change your vote.

I know this poll isn't very scientific, but at least it's something.
