Clutchless shifting?

I know no one can beat this!!

I probably have you all beat on how quick my one and only one went out. It went out with less than 75 miles on the truck. Picked up the truck at the dealer, drove back to the house about 30 miles pulled up 2 a light and it started running rough. Pooring out black smoke limbed it to house called the dealership. They brought the rollback over and took back and brought my old truck back. This was not they way I wanted to start out with my first dodge and diesel. I bragged up how that I was going away from a chevy to a dodge, I almost called in sick the next day to work so I wouldnt have to explain and get teased about the dodge and my first problem. Thank god its still going good. Even though I have that loud rattle that they cant seem to find. Which a few of 305 motors have, but its running good.

I believe mine was #5 also.

Although many have criticised this poll for being unscientific, it's results have maintained a steady 12% injector replacement rate since inception. Interesting.

With 311 voters, I'd say it's a fairly good sample. It would be interesting to see what DC's stats & percentages are in relation to your poll, Ryan..... I'd be willing to bet on some similar numbers from DC.

So far so good on my 04', 305HO, knock on wood. It's going on 95,000 now. I got the bdpp six months ago and have it set on the peformance mode. "90hp", but thinking of dropping it down to tow. 40 to 60hp... I do run Lucas injector cleaner every other full up... I don't know if it helps prevent injector failure, but I'll do what ever I can to make sure it's taken care of... .

well, "BIG RIG" finally is going into the shop for an injector problem

Service manager not had to say the least, He told me he would prefer not to touch it... So I walked him to my truck and showd him how loud the knock is upon clutch engagement... . he said he'll get me in thursday!(but I have to remove all chips)

BYW - I did the injector kill test, and that showed #4 being bad I think... It is really hard to tell with the dead cylinder. I mean no one kill made the knock go away, just less...

Well anyway, Now I have to go home and get back to stock :( - I better leave early to work on thursday, 196hp only goes so fast with a 500hp turbo :-laf

Tomey, I just went thru that with my truck. Your'e right, it's tuff to tell with the kill test. It knocks less, but not completely gone... may mean more than one injector is not working right. I replaced #3 first, still had a knock but not as loud, then narrowed it down to #4 also. Could do that on the first go-around, but DC will only let you order one injector at a time. I think we got it right though, hard knock off idle is gone :) Nice talkin' to you today... . thinkin' about my first serious walk down the bomb path (with this truck anyway).

Thanks for the support. As for that "walk"... Tread softly, its a slippery slope!!

Well I originally voted "no" to start with when this poll first started, but mean time I had to have #2 injector replaced around the first of August 2005 with around 30K on the clock. Cause according to dealership invoice was injector leaking which in return was causing a intermediate knock at low rpm idle up to 1000 rpm then would fade away. Truck did not smoke, have ruff idle,or throw any codes. Took three trips to the dealership before they finally heard it. Ever since replacement truck runs great,no more knock.

22500 on the clock dumpin 16oz PS and 8oz of MMO every fill up and no problems yet (knock on wood)

if anything does happen I'll probably upgrade the injectors instead of putting in the stockers ;)

3 injectors replaced

Gents,

My 2003 got to where I thought it wasn't going to start, 42,000 miles. I cranked for many seconds and finally sputtered to life. My mileage had been hanging around 17 - 18 when I had gotten 19-21 before. I replaced the fuel filter to no avail.

Took it into Carlin Dodge in Colorado Springs and the games began. I have the extended warranty.

They told me, after 6 hours of supposed troubleshooting, I needed one of more injectors. I was told that D. C. told them that they had to do even more troubleshooting, specifically directed by D. C. , beyond the shop manual, and provide digital pictures by email showing the proceedure was in progress. Then D. C. agreed that I needed #4,5, & 6 injectors replaced. D. C. also had to release the parts from the Denver warehouse. The dealer just couldn't order the. So, it took 3 1/2 days to get it fixed.

Engine starts fine, but mileage only improved 1 mpg.

I am going to try some BG Diesel stuff to see if the other injectors are just clogged a little.

Or, I wonder if the other injectors weren't border line failure but D. C. just didn't want to spend the money. The service manager claimed his hands were tied by D. C. in this matter.

If it weren't for the warranty and the fact that I am broke, I would have taken the truck to Rocky Mtn. Cummins in Denver. I bet they would have had me up in 24 hours without all this fuss.

10 bucks says you are correct, I plan of removing all my injectors it the next couple of weeks to satisfy my curiosity

Its almost like they just hope they replace the least amount of injector they can before the warranty runs out - Yet all of them have carbons, just some of them start to make problems...

I did run a quart of BG244 diesel injector cleaner through after 3 injectors were changed and the dealer wanted to charge me $260 to clean the other 3 injectors. I did pick up about 1+ mpg, but now my lift pump apprears to be failing, going to zero psi, so, it is unclear how that is affecting mileage. I may have gotten a better increase with the cleaner.

Got the BG244 at Midas Muffler. See the web site for more data and a product dealer in your area, if interested. http://www.bgprod.com/products/diesel.html

My 600 had 6 that were bad but Dodge only wanted to replace 3. After some discussion all six were replaced and all seems well. We'll see what happens when it gets good & cold again.

Edge Attitude telling me there is a bad injector...

I'm curious about my truck. The motor (if you can tune out the open exhaust) does seem louder.

Also, the Edge Attitude monitor "mode" flips back to zero. No matter what setting it's on, back to zero randomly while driving.

Today while cooling down when I got to work I notice it would sit at what ever number I put it at. I switch to any number, slow or fast button pressing. (e. g. it's on 5, switch to 2). nothing changes. AS SOON as a load change happened on the motor, it would correct it self. Load change either the A/C compressor, blower motor put on high, or just touching the accelerator.

Do anyone with bad injectors and Edge Attitude experience this? did this go away with new injectors?

I may put some di-electric grease on the connetions (tho my motor bay is like new clean after 45,000 miles). and see if things change.
