I reciently installed different injectors in my 95 Ram (175 to 215 injector swap). I used the piers installation kit which included three sets of washers. I used the middle size since they were the same as my originals.

I need to remove and reinstall the injectors (looking for leaks) Can I use the thinner washers (or thicker) which also came with the kit or should I buy another kit?

Thanks

Rog

Don't use the other size washers. You'll be ok re-using the old ones but if you suspect that's where it's leaking from, get new ones. I'd look closely at the return line, specifically the joints in the line it's self as they can get stressed when you change out the injectors. Also double check the torque of each injector before you pull them back out (35 ft lbs) to make sure you didn't miss one.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Its been said that the thinner the washers the better ,

There is like a cup On top if the pistons and the closer the Injector is to the piston the more the fuel will enter the cup and the more the better,

thats major laymens terms but that is pretty much how it was explained to me

Just food for thought

Good info all,

I've heard others say "use the thin washers". Also the leaks are occuring on three of the six injectors, all were torqued according to spec. I did clean the bore area. I really suspected the injector itself where the nozzles are screwed on, but the previous owner/rebuilder did not have any problems like this. Guess I'll just have to take them apart and see what I can glean.

Thanks

You tend to use the thinnest washer when running big injectors like 370's in order to get the fuel as close to the bowl on the piston as possible. Not sure of the benefit when running 215. Also, I've seen washers annealed by using a torch to heat them for re-use. What size (thickness) do you need?

vssman,

The mid size is a bit over . 050. I'll just get another set from piers.

Fuel is comming up from under the injector hold down nut. The area around the return tube and the high pressure input line is dry. Injectors originally torqued to 44 ft. lb. (the specs in my service manual).

Thanks for the help
