I have a straight piped '01 HO and I run a Smarty with about 29lbs of boost. Outside of that the truck is stock. I have been looking at a set of RV275's for a little power bump while towing.
1. what is the likelihood that the stock clutch is going to hold up. (its going good now and never slipped with the current setup)
2. EGT's what kind of an increase am i looking at. (if the injectors make more power but I cant use it because the EGT's spike up is it worth the mod)
I'm sure there are lots of people with similar setups so I truly appreciate your response and feedback.

I've been running 275's for two years, no prob wi the clutch. As for egt mine dropped about 50 degree. Now I don't have a smarty. Love the small boost in power. Gained 1-1/2 mpg. As long as I don't play with the power.

Bigger injectors aren't going to reduce your smoke.
Getting rid of the Smarty and going to a Quadzilla Adrenaline will, because you can tune it out. I run 7x.010 "150 HP" injectors without being smokey because of the Quad's tuneability.

klcammie - Thanks for the info. Good to hear that the clutch is holding and thanks for the info on EGT. I don't have a problem now and would very much like to keep it that way!

monstermaker - I thought the 275 were suppose to have better atomization due to the increased number of holes? wouldn't that have an impact on the smoke. Don't get me wrong I know the SMARTY is a smokey box, and it is what it is.

MRiley, You don't say how many miles on the 01? I have 99 and at 225k miles I have noticed more smoke than in past and minor cold starting issues and have VP44 from Blue chip but as I know that fuel passing thru the injectors will cause the tiny holes to become oblong over time and this can cause some irregularities (only slight problems). My milage towing has gone down 1 or 2 mpg (could be fuel quality) but empty, still at 22mpg at 70mph 2100 rpm. I am considering a set of RV 275 or marine injectors self installed this summer. If you do this , keep us posted>

I run rv275s with an EZ and happy with it. Smooth reliable power. Had the quad and edge comp and the power wasn't as smooth for me. It won't win any races but does well for me

If you have a Quadzilla and you are running the new "V2" software, the only way an Edge EZ is smoother or better in any way is if you haven't tuned it properly. All an EZ can do is bump the timing a preset amount and bump fueling a preset amount. A Quad can do that too if you want it to, or you can fine tune to your exact setup and liking. You can set fueling at each boost level in one-psi increments, you have total control of timing at different RPM levels, it can do automatic high-idle, you can turn fuel up higher or even down lower than stock.
The EZ does what it does, but it costs a lot of money for doing almost nothing. That's why I took mine off and tossed it!
Plus the Quad can do full data logging, virtual gauge displays for EVERYTHING, it can set a "valet mode" to limit powerir even an anti-theft NO power mode.

I have really low miles, about 71,000. Funny you should mention the Blue Chip VP44. I installed one on my truck about 3 years ago and have noticed very much the same things you are mentioning, lower towing mpg, but same unloaded mpg, and more smoke.... I wonder if there is a connection?

I think the VP 44 from Chip is great and does just what is advertised and my porblem with cold start and more smoke has come on in the last year and after talking with three or four Ram/Cummins in the know folks here locally the same suggestion comes up, that maybe time for injectors and I know the low pressure side (lift pump pressure and filter and line integurity) is fne. Looked at Geno's today and there are 3 options there, so I guess I just have to make the choice. Anyone have more information to share?? I have no tuner boxes!

I would go with the RV's, they are cheaper than stock and work better. You will need a boost fooler and elbow. I have 265k on mine, still going great.

Nick

I would avoid any box that taps the wire to the vp.It will stress the pump more and likely shorten it's life (as well as voiding the warranty if it still has any). You will want to allow higher boost as Nick said but I have never needed a boost fooler with a Smarty
