I understand that if you add enough fuel you will increase your egt's to the point that you have to start backing off to keep them at safe levels. My question is even tho you've backed off to keep the egt's in check are you still going up the hill faster than before adding the bigger injectors? I hope this question makes sense.

Thanks Greig

After reading my question in the forum I think it needs clarification. While towing heavy up a steep hill, wot, top speed of 50mph my post turbo egt is right at 900 deg. If I changed to some bigger injectors, towing up same hill, same load, would I be able to increase top speed without egt's going any higher

No, not without changing some other engine parameters, such as air intake. If you increase the boost then the answer would be yes, you can go faster with the same or less EGT as you are able to burn the extra fuel without raising the egt. Cylinder pressure will rise, which is where the extra power comes from, but not egt if the boost is matched to the fuel.

I respectfully disagree!

My EGT's 'post turbo' actually DECREASED after installing DD 2's,'EZ' and DTT Tranney at the same speed and RPM's. I think that's because I now barely have to push down on the go pedal to keep the same speed up a grade when before I was pushing it to the floor, or I would more honestly say, 'mashing' the pedal to pull my 26' Prowler up the hill.

In fact, even my '96 318 V8 Dodge RAM 5 speed was able to pull my trailer better than when my stock Turbo Diesel was new. However, since I installed my DD 2's , DTT + 'EZ', there is now no comparison.

Hi Bob. Just a question: You have an EZ along with your DD2s. Doesn't the EZ provide for more boost, thereby reducing the effect of the extra fuel, i. e. , the additional airflow "cools" the combustion? (I'm not an engineer, can ya' tell ;) )

I'm interested, because the ETH is supposed to respond better to the larger injectors than it does to the EZ, so I was going to go with injectors first. (And I tow fairly heavy).

Bob, I would like to respectfully point out that you changed the timing (which effects the volumetric efficiency of the engine) and added more air (boost) with you EZ box, that is why your EGT went down and not up.

JUST injectors with no other changes will increase egt. You will have to use a boost module or a fueling box with one built in. The DD TTPM would be my choice for an ETH if I could not get a VA and a seperate boost module. Just a boost module is all you need to run the injectors, and can be bought for as little as $75 in the classifieds.

Smith, Bob,

I put Stage 3 injectors in my truck, higher flow air filter and boost fooler. My EGTs are less than stock. I however never "floor it". I only drive 60 with my trailer but..... on the really long grades I am the only one able to hold speed (accelerate if I choose) all the way to the top. Fords are always Found On Right side of Dodge, in the slow lane. I have noticed many shocked drivers as I scream past them at 60 MPH. Stock I couuld easily exceed 1250 degrees. Currently I pull the same hills at 1100-1150 degrees.

RobbyRam, did you install the EZ and the injectors at the same time?

LSmith, with the EZ I can make about 28lbs of boost. If I understand you correctly I need to make more boost to be able to use more fuel. How do I do this?

Mag, with the EZ you have a boost module that will support more fuel. You don't need anything else. You can add some injectors.

Mag,

I have a boost fooler and module. I have gotten up to 30 psi boost on the dyno. I cant get near 30 just driving, I usually see around 20 psi. The boost lets you burn the fuel more efficiently ie not so much black smoke.

I agree with the premise that added timing and boost will lower egts but injectors are not equal in many respects. I recently tested some multihole injectors that smoked more, ran considerably higher egts then my Bully Dog 8's. I have the dyno sheets and witnesses at the KC Dyno day that the smokey, high egt injectors made 149. 6 horsepower LESS then the BD 8's. Injector angle of spray, pop pressure, atomization, etc all play an important role in egt and performance. BTW, boost on the dyno was within two lbs. for both injectors. All injectors are not created equal :) :), Larry
