How to replace the front cam bushing?

Hello!

I'm somewhat new to the 1st gen arena, so bear with me in my questions.

I'm contemplating new injectors, mostly for a fuel mileage perspective, but a little added power would be nice as well. From what I've read, the tried and true PODs are good bang-for-the-buck, but are a "dirty" injector. I assume then, that these don't give great fuel mileage? Are the DDPs hailed as the best 1st gen mileage injectors?

I see DDP sells 20, 40, and 80 hp versions for a '91. 5. Does anyone have fuel economy reports with any of these? I'm thinking about the 40 hp, but would consider the 80 if the fuel economy doesn't suffer.

Other mods in the works are AirDog pump with 1/2" lines and eliminating the factory fuel filter, 13" OFE Southbend clutch, HE351CW with the wastegate opened up to 1 1/16", ARP head studs, 3rd gen air box with Mopar high flow filter, 4" straightpipe exhaust, M&H timing spacer, 3200 rpm spring, M2 fuel pin from M&H, and 60 lb valve springs.

Does this get me close to 400 hp/ 900 tq? I'll run a progressive Cooling Mist water injection setup of temps are on the high side.

Thanks again for bearing with me as I learn.

You can see where I'm at in my sig. I'm fairly close to where you want to go. My DDIII+ injectors have been great but they I don't think you could find another set but I am sure you can find something that will get you where you want to go. In mixed driving - half city and half highway I get between 19 and 20 mpg. Steady freeway driving I see 22 to 23 mpg. What I have found is that your right foot has a whole lot to do with how good your mileage.

To achieve 400 hp you must burn fuel. I don't get how this matches with your quest for fuel economy.

That said, even PODs should not affect economy provided you drive using the power you have now. But, the higher the hp the more fuel you'll burn when your using it. ;)

In other words, your right foot has the control over fuel use.

That's exactly where I'd like to be! With 390 hp/880 tq and 20 mpg, I'd be tickled!

Are you saying that the DDIII+ injectors are no longer made?

Do you feel that the ATS exhaust manifold was worth the money?

Thanks for the help!

I bought my DDIII+ injectors in 2003. When they made mine they were only the second set they made. They were honed 2nd gen injectors mated to 1st gen bodies. I was told that they would not make another set for less than $1200. I know you can get an injector that will work as well as these - others will probably jump in with their opinions.

Hmmm, well it looks like that option is out!

What horsepower are the PODS rated at?

I'm still on the fence about getting new injectors. If they really provide the 1 - 2 mpg increase that DDP says, I'd get them for sure. But, I've also been told about mpg increases that didn't seem to show up in reality on my truck.

Well, from doing some other reading, it looks like DDP is a lot of marketing and just a mediocre injector. In fact, the DDP 3 and 4 seem to be a 155° spray angle which is just a rebadged 370?

Right now I'm leaning toward some SDX injectors, although I'm not settled on 5 x 12, 5 x 14, or 5 x 16. Any thoughts? Would the 5 x 16s give 375 - 400 hp and still be easy to tow with using the HE351 and water injection?

--Eric

I tried to do some searching on here about SDX injectors and the M&H timing spacers and fuel pins. I haven't been able to find even one mention in the 1st gen section?

Is it because these products are no good? Or just because there isn't much activity around these parts lately?

Eric, I have a set of New Era 370's, 5 x . 012. I hit 348 hp on a trailer type dyno, and they are hot when towing. Problem is, I have a 60mm upgrade kit on my stock H1C, and it's not enough. A bigger turbo would help immensely. I'm sure with a better turbo or a set of twins that the HP would come up too, it smokes quite a bit.

As for the timing spacers, you need to got over to 1stGen.org • Index page and read up. There is a decent thread on them, a couple guys have them in their trucks. Might be something on the SDX injectors too, I can't remember for sure.

Thanks, that helps!!! It looks like 5 x . 012s are as big as I need to go then!! Hopefully with the HE351 turbo and water injection I'll be able to keep things cool towing?

What other mods did you have to get the 388 hp in your sig?

Thanks!!!

Eric

I don't trust that number, I was on a load type dyno and I don't think he had it loaded enough. I did 347 and 799 on a dynojet trailer type. That one I trust.

I'm pretty sure I listed all my mods when you PM'd me a while back.

I thought of going to an HE351, and decided to go the twins route, if I can come up with the money. I'm sure I would be close to 400 hp if I had the air. And I can get 24 mpg on the highway, at 70 mph. Around town it varies from 16-19, depending on how hard I get on it. It is a 2wd remember.
