I was very hesitant to post this for a few reasons but the longer I wait the more upset I become so here it goes... .

I purchased a set of USED Bully Dog stage II injectors. They were said to be on the truck for around 10k miles. I installed them about 3 weeks after I installed the PE Comp box so I could see the difference each one made. When I installed the Comp box I noticed a HUGE difference in the seat of the pants. I couldn't wait to see what the injectors did for me. Installed them, everything went smooth as silk, truck fired up just fine, I could tell it ran a little rougher than stock and had heard this was common with larger injectors so I *assumed* they were good to go. I backed out on the road and gave her heck and was VERY disappointed... the ONLY difference I saw was a little bit blacker smoke and MAYBE it smoked a little more, it's really hard to say. But the bottom line is that I didn't feel anything in the seat of the pants. Also this was immediately after installing a SB clutch so I really should have felt something because the old clutch was slipping slightly. Now I know SOME mods may be hard to notice but going from stock injectors to stage II's... ... I think I should have had atleast a LITTLE smile on my face.

When I turn the Comp box off it feels like stock and I get NO smoke... shouldn't it smoke a LITTLE with stage II's and nothing else???? The part #'s were different than my stock ones but I didn't write them down (didn't see a need to at the time). I may pull one out and call the manufacturers to put my mind at ease.

Now I know what everyone's first response is going to be so let me say this:

I have dealt with this guy before and he has done me right in the past so I asked him if perhaps he may have accidentally given me the old stock injectors instead and he said absolutely not because these were the only ones he had there.

I don't see any way that I could have done something wrong in the install process that would allow the truck to run perfectly fine but NOT have a power increase. Can anyone shed some light on this one??

You should pull them and have the pop off pressure checked first. If they are are good then send them to Bulldog and have them inspected. If they give you grief ask the guy you bought them from to do it. At 10k miles they should be under warranty still. You should definately feel a set of stage 2 injectors with the box off. Stage 2's dont smoke that bad but they will smoke more than stocker for sure.

Good Luck

Nathan

I am no expert

But you should feel 80 hp, I know I did. I used to run comp on 2 or 3 and now don't use comp for daily driving because it runs now like it did with smaller injector and comp on 3. Try and get a ride with or drive another truck with 2's in it, and compare or hit a dyno so you can have a print out to show the person that sold you those injectors. I don't think that you could have done any thing so wrong and still have a truck that runs without missing or making oil and not get the hp that they should make.

OR have your butt-o-meter recalibrated :)

Hope you get to the bottom of this

GOOD LUCK

Craig

Thanks for the input

What is pop off pressure? And is this something I can check myself? He said they worked perfect on his truck so how could this be an issue?

My truck does smoke quite a bit, I just didn't notice much more smoke after the injectors.

same feeling here

I installed some DD3's with the same feeling. Little more power, lot more smoke not much go. I think my problem is the turbo. I only see 25psi on boost max right now with my little HY. I'm waiting on a 4" exhaust to install my new turbo. My only indication that the injectors are bigger is all the black smoke. So I am guessing I have a but load of fuel and not enought air.

KBOND have you tied back the wastegate. I am set up pretty much like you are and prior to changing the turbo's I buried the Boost gauge.

No. I never got around to it. I have the new turbo sitting in my garage and I'm just waiting for the exhaust to show up. Plus I haven't upgraded my fueling yet so I'm keeping my foot out of it so I don' t kill the lift pump.

Kbond, do you have a boost module of some kind on the truck? I see you are planning a Comp.

Yes I do. I haven't updated my profile. Thanks for the reminder. ;)

Ryan, a turnbuckle is nothing more than a hardware store turnbuckle bolt assembly. Usually a hook bolt on both ends or two eyebolts on each end.

The turnbuckle is rigged to the wastegate lever and physically keeps it from operating thus letting you get max boost with no wastegate. A search would result in some photos I'm sure.

Under your search type turnbuckle... all one word and you'll get some photos in these threads. Search for that word in the title only.

Thanks Neil, I figured it was something along those lines but I'm getting 38psi max with the boost elbow so I don't think that is the problem.

I had and '01 truck with DDII's and a PS boost fooler, the truck ran great. It would make 32 to 35psi boost and would pull the tounge out of your trailer. I traded for an '02,same truck except for 3. 54. I pulled off all my goodies before I traded . The boost fooler wouldn't fit my '02 and I wanted more power as most of us do so I bought an EZ. I put that on first ,the truck ran great, almost as good as my '01. Then I put in my II's,I was not impressed. More smoke but not as much power as either injectors or the box alone, and only make 35 to 38psi boost. After you drive it a while you learn where it makes its power and you can really haul the mail, but it don't jump out from under you... ..... Blue

Pop off pressure is the pressure that the injector opens and delivers the fuel. Any Bosch injection shop can test the pop off pressure on your injectors. If it where me I would send em back to Bully Dog and have them check them out.

As for adding injectors and not being able to tell the difference... no way. I added 275's to my stock truck and thought it was night and day. Added DD3's and could tell the diff. I am about to add DD supermentals (because I got a smokin deal on a used set) and I doubt I will tell the diff, but they are only about 20 hp more than the 3's.

Something is wrong.

Did you add the injectors before or after you pdr hx40? I know my problem is air at this point.

Which turbo... eheheh

I ran the 275's with the stock HY35 (and an Power Edge box) for a while. Then I added DD3's and an PDR HX35 and that worked good but still got hot with the fueling box on. So I added a PDR HX40 and all is well. I can still get real hot (1400+) but I am going so darn fast its scary.

Hope that helps...

Ryan, are you in Indiana right now? If you are, come up to Muncie and we'll cruise to Dave's Diesel and check the pressures.
