HOLY COW

80 replies and not 1 mention of ULSD! Not sure about the guys up north but we have been running it in 1 form or another since June. It is my unscientific assumption that sulphur is to diesel fuel what lead was to gasoline. I had an 85 W350 with a 360 exempt motor and had to have the valves and seats stellite sprayed and the guides bronze walled. My 2004. 5 has had 2 injectors replaced under warranty since June, coincidence  maybe but I am running Lucas additive just in case and am going to check the fuel tank tomorrow.

Dc, Warrantee Problems,amf

I went around with DC over a VP44 pump failure. My diesel engine warrantee started at the end of the basic 3/36 warrantee. So after 3/36 I thought my warrantee would start, silly me. It was explained to me that I was reading the warrantee "wrong". I guess you need a crystal ball & a pair of binoculars to read DC's warrantee. I sued DC & couldn't even get a jury trial I paid for. I'll let TDR members contemplate that. I know this is a CR section, my point is that DC simply does not care, repeat sales are of no concern to DC. It doesn't matter if you have a VP44 engine or CR, they don't care about satisfied customers if they have to pay a warrantee claim. I personally can't wait till Toyota or Nissan come out with a 1 ton diesel. It will be engineered out, you won't have to design your own fuel system(CR) or put fuel coolers before your pump(VP44). The best engineering comes out of GM now because Isuzu cares & is competant, yes they have some troubles with the Duramax, this is a tougher to engineer V8 though. If they only had an inline 6. I am not going to shed a tear when DC loses half its sales to Japanese trucks. I have a friend who actually received a letter from Honda asking if they wanted some part of their car given an extended warrantee. Honda was looking for something to warrantee. DC is looking to screw their customers at every turn. Best of luck, shine on, Randy

The imports are not that much better then the home brands this day and age. Don't be fooled that the imports are easy with warranty money. When they get tight they get REAL TIGHT. Read some of their sites. Paint issues, diff issues etc. The list is not very much differant then the home brands. Grass is always greener on the other side. In fact I wish that there was a restriction on how many imports can be brought in and sold here in the U. S. Thats what they do to us.

Do 05's have this problem as my son has an 05, 20k miles and no problems yet knock wood. .

Yes. My '04. 5 had this little defect. The tech at the dealership I use, gave me some of the hoses to install. Get under there and look!

How many people are having the injector failing problem? I have read most of the posts, and it seems like a small number. In this thread I have only read 3 people who have had the failure. Just curious if we are blowing this out of proportion.

You are correct, the vast majority of trucks have no injector issues.

Dealers (swear word) believe we (Dodge owners) are rich and stupid. Were I ever to break down in front of a Dealer I would call a tow truck and go to an independent shop, warranty or no warranty. Dealers "fix" other things while they are at it to get you back and some more of your money. Independent shops will go out of business if they get a bad reputation and they know it. Dealers operate as if they were the only game in town. Factory authorized this and that and so called "genuine" parts are no better and sometimes not as good and can cost 3 x as much as the identical part on the after market. When you go to a Dealer your saying here I am, another sucker for you to screw. The fact that you don't know better than to be there tells them that you are all theirs to pull their dirty tricks on. I don't know everything, only what I have learned by my own experience. Feel free to disagree. I certainly hope it has not been the same for everyone. When I decide exactly what I want I go from dealer to dealer offering invoice price and when I get one that will sell at invoice I drive away and never go back. Maybe I got it all wrong but that is what I believe at 78 and years before that.

I know that over time I have read on several differant forums that there have been several posts and denied warranty because of metal flake/shards found in the fuel and fuel tanks with the imply that it came WITH the fuel that was purchased. I found that strange and my first thoughts were that it came from a item in the trucks fuel system as several of these posts were from differant sections of country and isolated.

Considering that I have gotten metal "particles" in the fuel filter before (assumed it to be from the lift pump), it would make for a very "good" thing to look for on DC's part to void a warranty. They would be almost guaranteed they would find those metal flake and be able to void your warranty...

As I stated before, this will be the last new dodge I own... the motors aren't the only thing that is a PITA to get warranty for... almost everything bumper to bumper is a fight to get warrantied... I had to threaten the one local dealer with NHTSA to get my leaking CP3 replaced under warranty. I have since became my own warranty station just to alleviate the aggrevation of a dealer visit.

I have kept this metal in the fuel system thing filed close up in my mind if if it ever happens to me theres going to be a huge fight if warranty is denied. Its eathier lift pump or CP3. Not just warranty denied but they wanted to replace every thing involved in the fuel system. Common sense told me the firsft time I read one of those posts it wasn't introduced with the fuel but by a item failing eaither lift pump or CP3. Then again the FILTER should have stopped metal large enough to SEE.

If DC would just listen to their customers... ... maybe establish a mediation panel to look at issues with their products and offer up a mutually derived solution to both sides' concerns, then the consumer might feel as though we were buying a product from a vendor that actually wanted our repeat business.

I curently have a wiper delay warranty issue on-going. First attempt at a fix was replacing the switch assy.

The service writer knows that something is wrong, but can't duplicate the problem when the truck has been in the shop.

I had 35,812 miles on it when I took it in last week - and they were unable to duplicate the problem.

I told the Service Writer that it will go over the 36k warranty with this problem still in existence. He said don't worry about it.

We'll see what happens today when I call and schedule it to be looked at as soon as I drive up - because that's when the delay isn't delaying which is what they need to have happen to trace the trouble (so they say).

I've been quite pleased with Bremerton Dodge (and Mike Pappas) so far. Light years ahead of the other two Dodge dealerships I previously went to - Burlington & Oak Harbor - Washington.

As long as its documented before the 3/36 runs out its under warranty as long as theres a paper trail of repair attempts. KEEP your reciepts! Make sure they state the issue and what was found or not found etc.

Are trucks that have FASS or GDP setups with the aux filtering having injector problems as well? Interested in trucks with no power adders.

I do know of three trucks with around 150k on each that never have had a fuel additive and one thats gone 30k between filters with no running issues whats so ever. Go figure.
