The engine number as shown on a sticker located on driver's side of the valve cover is 57114476. Couldn't find a CPL number. The sad saga has taken a turn for the worse. Vacaville Dodge put a tracer on the injector. It's due to be shipped on June_28  :{ , ten days from now. The best I can hope for under that scenario is to have the truck back before the Fourth of July weekend. Also, learned the the injector itself costs about $675:--) . I'm SOOOOoooo thankful this is under warranty.

The part number should be 4025249. Your CPL is 8228. I haven't been able to contact the dealer yet but I got the part number and CPL number right off the Cummins website. Its good to hear that they at least have located one and has it coming your way.

If it's coming my way, then I owe you big time. I'll touch base again with Vacaville Dodge tomorrow. I know they'd love to get that truck off their lot almost as much as I would. It'd be really good to have it fixed and on the road before the dealer-ordered part makes it to Vacaville.

Got my fingers crossed,

Thanks for asking, but no, I'm still truckless. The anticipated June 28 shipment did not materialize, and the new shipping date is (grrrrr) July 28. I've been making a pest of myself at Vacaville Dodge and hammering on DC for the past week and a half. All I can do is laugh now. Everyone involved knows that Dave needs an injector, and I'm convinced that they want to get me on the road almost as bad as I want it. The only remotely positive thing is that I'm getting a lot of free storage days at Vacaville Dodge. They're looking for the injector in the same places that I'm looking for it, and so far neither of us has found one.

It isn't as if I'm looking for a part for a Minneapolis-Moline Jeep prototype from World War II. This is a brand new truck. I haven't found the parts for either one, so what's the difference? Two months is tooooooo long to wait for an silly injector.

Anyone know of any off the wall parts source that might have it? I'm about ready to forego the warranty and buy the part myself if I could.

Have you asked them to take an injector out of a new truck on their lot? If it is the dealer you purchased from; I would hope they would do this.

That's not an option. I bought the truck in Texas, and I'm currently located in California. I really don't have any standing with the local dealer except indirectly through DC. I've also made an attempt at navigating the Cummins website and thus far have not been able to get to where I want to go from wherever I got in (if that makes sense). Will try again when we meet our next deadline out at the jobsite.

My thougths...

1) Man this stinks!

2) Diesel Dynamics has some injectors for the 3rd gens; they are performance, but a set might get you going. I would recommend a EGT gauge if you do this. Call them and talk to them. Their web site is www.dieseldynamics.com They show a 50hp set for $800. I will say that all they show on their website is for 2003, but give them a call and talk to Keith... I am not affiliated or a customer.

3) Start calling all the Cummins stores you can find. Here are some of the ones I found on their website.

Cummins Southern Plains - (713) 679-2220 - Houston. I have used them several times and they have always had what I needed in stock and shipped the day I called!

Cummins Southern Plains Inc - (214) 321-5555 - Dallas. Never used, but worth a shot.

I feel your pain and I wish I could be more help. Let me know if you want me to hunt you some more Cummins Parts houses.

Good luck!

DAVE - I just opened this thread and read about your problem - have you tried Cummins West in West Sacramento? Where exactly are you staying? I live out about 5 miles north af Vacaville close to the industrial park - dunno that I can be of any help in this situation, but PM me for my phone number if a bit of legwork might help...

Oo. Oo. Oo.

Vacaville Dodge got the injector today. They called about 2:30 this afternoon and told me to come get my truck. It's running great with absolutely no knock, just like it did when I bought it. Thanks for all your efforts on getting this thing resolved. It shouldn't have taken three weeks, but bottom line, I've got it back, and I'm a lot happier than I was 24 hours ago.

Now I can stop whining and enjoy my truck. :D :D

Thanks again
