Ive had an edge ez on my truck for the last 12 or 13 years. I would like to get a little more power, but I dont want to pay $6k for a new transmission. Ive heard folks talk about rv275 injectors. Here is my question.

Ive been told that adding the new injectors to my otherwise stock truck (keeping the ez box installed) would do bad things to my auto trans. If I were to remove the ez and go to the rv275s, would I still be taxing my anto trans too much ? Would I see any gain in hp and torque by installing the new injectors and removing the ez ?

Thanks

The EZ adds about 60HP/180tq, the RV275's add about 30hp/90tq. Do you have your EZ on level 3? You might add injectors and turn your EZ down to level 1 or 2, it is a pain on the older EZ to change levels. You have to pull the bottom cover off and change the jumper connector. You also might drive with your right foot until the transmission is in lockup.

I guess it also depends on how you use the truck. I ran an old-style Edge EZ and DD2 injectors on my 2002 ETH/DEE (HO/6-speed) that dynoed at 347/762, and it blew through the stock clutch accelerating in 5th and 6th gears running empty - South Bend Clutch CON O/FE was the next addition. A friend who owned a 99 Ram with the 47RE belonged to our RV group and wanted more power to tow his 5th wheel. I cautioned him about possible ill effects on his transmission, but he went with the EZ anyway. Running only the EZ, he burned up the lockup clutch in his torque converter when towing his 12K GVWR 5th wheel within a few months.

So, I guess it depends. My ETH/DEE's clutch couldn't handle both the EZ and the Diesel Dynamics Stage 2 injectors, which admittedly were hotter than RV275s. My friend's 47RE couldn't handle the EZ by itself, but it caught him when towing, not running empty.

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like I would be moving backwards if I removed the ez and added the 275's. My tt is only about 4k, so thats probably why Im still in good condition with the ez.

Thanks again.
