Sending in oil sample question

Okay guys and gals. It will soon be injector time. I'm leaning toward DD stage 2 injectors for my '04 high Output. I want something at least as good, if not better, than theirs. I just found out that I have to send mine in, they doctor them up, and send them back. I'd rather find an alternate route. $950 seems pretty steep to just be getting my own injectors back. And they stopped the TDR discount back in August. :{

Has anyone found them cheaper, or any other brands that are just as good if not better?

I don't want racing, mental, coal-engine-smokin' injectors, just ones that are similar to what I had in my '01. 5 ETH (DD stage 2's). I'm going to add them with an Edge EZ.

Thanks.

This came up in the chat last night I asked the same question as you..... F1 diesel is coming out with injectors for our trucks soon. I asked if there was any injector better than the DD's and i was told that F1 diesels injectors idled smoother and didnt smoke as much.

this is there site F1diesel.com

I have seen these. I'm assuming ours are the "Echo" Cummins. I can't believe they are a grand. And I didn't want to give up my injectors. I paid less than $600 for my '01. 5 injectors. One thing I always loved about these Cummins engines was the price for decent upgrades. They seem to be going through the roof, and cost the same as the P-stroke and D-max. This bites!!

Both Diesel Dynamics and F1 work on an exchange basis. You buy theirs, install them, and send your originals back for credit. Price is about the same. With all the new computer controls, upgrades are expensive.

Honestly, considering the 2G injectors are mechanical and fairly simple compared to the 3G "echo" injectors, I'm pretty impressed with the prices on the 3G injectors. The sticks for my 2G are about 800 bucks for EDM Mach 2's, while the 3G injectors are only 300 bucks more, and they're electronically controlled. Compare that to the F*RD guys who are paying $300 for EACH electronically controlled injector and need 8 of them!

Haha. . no problem JRG I'm not hatin'... just givin you crap... must have been indigestion from lunch. :p I was just tryin to get you to spill more info about why you liked them, how much they were, etc... I assume they're honed and not EDM, right?

Back on Track

Getting back on track here :D , I got a pm from member Greg Boardman. He gave me a number to call someone who deals DD stuff, among other things. I found that I can save $125 on DD stage 2 injectors :D:D:D

I still have a problem of having to send mine in, having them doctored, and then getting them back. Oh well. I guess that's what I'll have to do.

I'm not 100% sold on them yet. I'm still waiting on something/anything better. I realize that they are electronic and not mechanical like the old ETH, and that is driving the price up.

If anyone knows of any sweeter deal, or of another dealer that has some special going on, please let me know.

I'm getting the "itch" I sure miss the power of my '01. 5. It was so fun to drive. I installed my 5er hitch on Monday, and hooked up the 5er to it yesterday. I was sure bumbed. I wish I was bombed, but I'm not yet:( I couldn't believe how sluggish it is. I spent so much time in 5th gear from 2000-2500 RPM going from 50-60 mph it made me sick. And I had just installed my HOG exhaust with the muffler on LOUD. For those that don't know, you can reverse the muffler. It has two levels: LOUD and LOUDER :D Well, I had it installed in theLOUDER direction. It was annoying at 2500 RPMs for so long. I guess I'm just getting old:)

Anyway, the thread is injectors, not exhaust or towing. So, please point me in the right direction for a great deal on some great towing injectors.

Thanks

Yes, honed and matched. The dealer where I ordered the truck offered them as they are in stock, so there most likely be a core charge instead of down time.

I get a little smoke puff under WOT mashing my freind said, but I have never noticed.

@ 60 mph computer says better than 24 mpg. I average 18-19 mixed driving. (speedo is corrected)

Very smooth, no problems. With my mods, @ 60mph up to 80 mph, 625* egt. on flat ground. Can hit 1300* empty up a hill.

I paid $1200 installed before taking delivery so I can't say what the differance is from stock, or the out the door $.

I can say that from what I hear Kax has been doing things for the Viper for a while and thats not a cheep play toy, its a spendy one

This is my 1st diesel so I don't have very much... . any exp. with diesel injectors.

I went with them because the were available from the get go and non-detectable.

Not necessarily because you will buy a new set first, get them installed, and send yours back. You will be getting someone elses reworked injectors. But that's how they all are. If you took yours out to send in and have reworked, you'd be down for a few weeks.

What does EDM refer to and are the 275's available for the '03. New to the injector game but they seem safer than the current fuel boxes.

Nope... I take mine out, overnite 'em, they get doctored, and they overnite 'em back to me. Three days downtime. I have to pay the overnite rate, tho:(

You made it sound like that's the way it had to be done, but it's just the way you want to do it. That's fine. I would suggest that you don't do it that way because if you don't like the new ones, you don't have your old ones to put back in. Try the new ones and if you like them, send back the old ones. If not put back in the old ones and send the new ones back and try a different level.

Both sets I have installed in my truck came in, I installed them, sent the cores back. DD makes a very dependable product. Good customer service, and produces gobbs of power. I love my DD bombed truck... ... . Greg

I could just buy some injectors and send mine in as cores. The point they made, and it's a valid one since they are electronic and mine are essentially brand new, is that if I just buy a set of injectors, I might be getting injectors that have lots of miles on them. Whereas if I send them mine, I'll be getting back injectors with only a few thousand miles.

I still haven't decided if these are the ones I want.

SOLER

Right, but if you don't like the new level, your stuck with them until you can find somebody to swap with you. Just something to think about.

Yes, this is my whole point. This is why I am stuck on the fence. I don't want to send mine in and be without my truck for a few days, and I don't want to get injectors with worn out electronics.

Decisions decisions decisions decisions decisions... .....

Thanks for the help thus far fellas:)
