This is a novice question, but one that I just can't seem to sort out.

? does the computer regulate the amount of fuel (= more performance)? (reason for the chip)

I read people are upgrading the injectors, but not the computer.

I read people are upgrading the chip, but not the injectors (or are bigger injectors included in the chip upgrade?).

My truck just doesn't seem to run like it used to (104K). I now have 265x75r16, but I know that can't be all the problem (dirty injectors?)

I would like more power, but don't know where to start researching.

Michele,

The chips or boxes come in a couple different types, timing, fueling and both. As for what they do a box like the EZ main function is timing, but it also has a boost module built in that tricks the truck so that it does not start defueling the system at a preset boost level. In order to get more boost then stock though you would need to also change out the boost elbow on the turbo. There are boxes like the Power edege that are fueling boxes and increase the amount of fuel going to the injectors, these are normally adjustable. Then there are are boxes that do both, PE-Comp, DD UFM, etc.

Putting in larger injectors increases the amount of fuel being delivered pretty much across the entire powerband. As with the fueling boxes an increase in fuel whether by box or injectors can/will cause more smoke especially at low boost. Now to answer you question are injectors included with chips... . Well no these are not normally included with a box although these upgrades are done in conjuction a lot of the time.

As far as power there are lots of options and opinions :). You really didn't say what you use you truck for or what kind of power gains you are looking for. Most people seem to start out with a box like the power edge EZ, and add injectors. Others though jump straight to the fueling boxes. In any case if you have an auto I wouldn't do too much upgrading without upgrading the transmission. It is always easier to improve something rather then fix it once it is broken :(.

Hope this all helps, you can do a search on performance upgrades there is a wealth of info on the TDR site. People are great at letting you know what works and doesn't work. Although sometimes it just comes down to personal preference/opinion as to what is best for you.
