While "bigger" injectors are not available from the dealer, they are available in the aftermarket. :)

checked out your web site today. you do not recomend the injectors with hp enhaceing boxes. i run the 6 gun with speed loader. i gross out at 22760# truck and trailer. truck does fine but want the LITTLE extra. as far as intake and exhaust, i have airaid and open exhaust. will the injectors work or not. still not ready for the new turbo. thanks for the input.

It does get pretty cold where I'm from and I went with the diesel oil that comes from Chrysler. I couldn't see running 15/40 when temps dip below -10 to-40.

I was a little unsure about the injector cleaning though I thought I should have been okay, hence my reason for posting.

Also wanted the fuel filter changed and they said I was okay for another 15km.

It sounds to me like your dealership has you confused with a gas engine schedule. Dodge dealerships are recommending gassers have a cleaning process every 15k (we did this on my wife's 99 gasser. ) They put an injector cleaning additive in the tank and attach a can of injector cleaner to the fuel line and run the engine at high idle. This would not be a good process for a diesel I would think.

Also, I don't know how many miles you have on your fuel filter but "another 15,000 miles" sound like a very bad idea as well. OK for a gasser, not for a diesel. I change my fuel filter every other oil change. JMHO.

Rmissy, as others have said - you certainly got a service writer that didn't know what he was talking about. That said, it's pretty hard to expect a service manager who probably takes in over 30 different models to know off the top of his head every vehicle's particular service schedule. It's up to you to read your owners manual and KNOW YOURSELF when things need to be done. The injector cleaning is total bs as others have said. Run some redline in each tank and forget it. As for the fuel filter, most here like to change a bit earlier than recommended - usually every other oil change or every 10k. Filters are cheap and injectors are not!

Just a quick comment on fuel filter changes. I'm a proponent of changing them by engine hours rather than mileage, and I've been trying to find a good interval. First I tried 200 hours, too short. 250 hours, also too short. 300 hours was better, but I think 350 hours is just about right.

Just an opinion of maybe another way to look at it...

Dunno where you saw that, but we sell the Edge boxes and do stack them with our injectors all the time (with the other appropriate parts as well).

How many miles does 350 hours average? How do you check the hours anyway? I haven't seen an hourmeter on these trucks.

turn the key to run [ignition on, engine off] and press and hold the trip reset button. the hours will come up there... and for a trip, press and hold the trip button then turn the key to run :-laf:-laf:-laf

I have an 03 with 250,000 miles on it, no injector cleaning, I have noticed a fuel milage increase lately, I do use fuel additive once in a great while, it keeps the injectors clean. If your injectors ever get bad your fuel milage will drop. Only fords need their injectors replaced before the engine wears out.

 I think you hold the record for most mileage on a 3rd gen. Could you give us a repair history?

Had a customer in the shop 2 days ago... 320k on his 3G. Purchased in February of 03.

Another interesting thread!!! I'm, a bit, surprised that some of us are getting 250,000-350,000 miles without injector failures. I have a couple of friends with Duramaxes, and on their website, one of the big issues is premature injector failure due to inadequate fuel filtration. They are trying to find fuel filters that filter down to 2 microns to preserve their fuel injection systems. Fuel injector cleaners with lubricity agents is also of great interest. If I'm not mistaken, Duramax is using a Bosch HPCR system that is very similar to ours. Therefore, issues affecting them would probably be affecting us, also. I wonder if these high mileage Dodges are doing anything extraordinary to preserve their fuel injection systems (better filtration, additives, etc. ). Fleetguard fuel filters are rated to filter to 10 microns. My Duramax friends think 10 microns is asking for serious trouble, soon. Any of you, more knowledgeabee guy's, out there have any thoughts or suggestions? Thank You! Joe F. (Buffalo)

Although I wouldn't consider myself particularly "knowledgeable" (2nd gen guys are the real experts on fuel delivery, IMO), I am doing this in an attempt to mitigate any small particle contamination issues. I'm motivated by threads like this one, tales of 3rd gen LP failures, and the experience of the Duramax guys.

I will say this: I believe (hope?) our injectors are of different design/materials than the Duramax used (uses?). I think the lessons Bosch learned on the DMax system were applied to our system. I have no factual evidence to back that statement up... just comes from a long time reading this and other forums and looking over the Bosch website. Plus the fact that our system came into use a few years after the DMax system. If you look at the Bosch web page for their common rail system, they're calling it "3rd generation". I believe the Dmax uses the 1st generation, we have the 2nd generation, and perhaps the 2005-up trucks have the 3rd generation. Just a theory. Link to Bosch press release.

I hate to say it out loud. But careful with the doin your own work. Chrysler has voided some warranties in the past if the mechanic is not ase certified. Before I get jumped for even saying it. Remember whiteknight? I can pull up the old post if you like.
