I'm wanting to get injectors, currently I am running #10 plate, 15. 5* timing, K&N drop-in filter, also getting GSK in the next couple of weeks, 3 or 4 not sure yet... . I am wondering what size injectors should I get? How long does it take for a average mechanic to install a set of injectors?

I really have no complaints about my Bosch 370's I put in about 2 months ago. Not crazy smoke, but enough to be tasteful. Not to hazy as some have reported, but I dont have a 215 pump either. I have never done them before, And with some beverage breaks, and painting the injector lines while I had them off and some other misc. problems I ran into from living in salt country took me about 7 hours. I could imagine a competent mechanic doing a straight swap in about 2hrs no problem.

fast silly

there is a thread on this site on how to make an injector puller. it's basically a slide hammer to pop them out. with that in hand it took me 45 minutes to swap injectors and i had never worked on a diesel before. also so you dont think im just kidding i am no mechanic. it's really simple. you just follow the directions word for word. i think you can get them on the pdr site

really you ought to do it and save the money. you will be suprised with how easy it is

then go drive it!! when my boost gauge shot to 40 i almost wet my pants

had to go get a neck brace to go with my lead foot :-laf

You can also use a piece of conduit about 3/4" cut it 1. 5" long, then get a M14x1. 5 pitch nut and drop the pipe over the injector with everything off, thread the nut on the injector and as you tighten it will pull the injector out!

Welcome to the TDR. :)

I didn't need a piece of pipe. I just used a lug nut from a GM pickup truck. Used a regular prybar for the front 3 or 4 injectors, then a rolling head pry bar for the rest. Popped right out.

Once I had the tools I needed, out, it didn't take long at all. 45 minutes maybe. Pretty easy.

thanks for the info, also will I need to advance my timing more when I get my injectors and GSK in? I notice a lot of people that are running that setup, their timing is 19* and higher... . I'm kinda new to this, and still learning so please be patient, Thanks again

Wouldn't go higher than 17 with your setup and lack of studs. You run a higher risk of blowing your HG the higher you go. 17 would still be safe but you will lose a little bottom end.

I've used a short piece of PVC pipe and a lug nut. Slip the PVC over the injector, tighten down the lug nut and the injector pops right out.

I take all the high pressure fuel lines off (2 sets), remove the return line (it's connected with a banjo fitting on the drivers side of the engine), pop the injectors and replace in reverse order. My first time took about 3 hours, the next time it was done in less than 1. 5 hours. VERY easy and simple.

If you do much towing, i'd suggest you stay away from the 370's, too hot. I had to switch to the DD2's to cool things down (about 200 degrees towing) but i still need to drive by the EGT's from time to time.

Brian :)

Yeah, I used a lug nut and a pry bar. it took about 45min maybe an hour. My first time, easy stuff. Um, yeah I was really happy with 370's, and they are goin in the next truck unless I get a 24v.
