I have a 98 12 valve that smokes kind of a blueish colour after it has been idleing for a few minutes, then clears up after you get going. My timing has been set at 15. 5,clean filters all around stock injectors. It doesnt burn any oil between changes, other than what leaks out the front cover. I am thinking maybe a bad injector? The fuel here in this part of british columbia is sometimes dubios.

Is this after the truck has been warmed up to operating temperature? If you start it up cold then just let it idle then yeah, it's going to make a little blue smoke because of cold combustion.

How many miles on the truck? If more than 150,000 miles I suggest removing your injectors and cleaning the tips. If 200k or more definitely have the pop pressure tested. Injectors can start getting tired by 200k.

That is right, when the truck is warm. I have about 120,000 on it,but I had it up north for awhile and I suspect I may have had it idleing for too long on separate times. If I get a chance I will pull out the injectors and give them a visual, around my area they want almost as much to rebuild them as it would cost for a set of 215s from PDR.

Another thing to do is service the prefilter, and check the electrical connector on the preheater to make sure it doesn't have any leaks. Oily fuel around the connector is an indicator. Any place where the system can draw in air could also cause your smoke.

Thanks Vaughn for the help. Everything looks O. K. at the prefilter,I am going to order an new 90 degree elbow and o-ring just to be safe. I see that you live in the tri-citiies area and Spokane is the nearest major center for me,being only 3. 5hrs north is there a reputable diesel shop there?Otherwise it is longer to get to a shop in canada that deals more with light truck diesels.
