Injectors ????

Hello, I'm new to the site but I've been having some issues with the truck. Symptoms - 2 years ago had it flashed for California smog laws, ever since I will occasionally get the grid heater light come on pulling the trailer. Been hearing a ticking sound under acceleration for a couple months now (sounds like a fuel ping) last night the light came on as I came up to a stop sign no trailer. I never lose power when the light comes on. Replaced FCA. No unusual smoke. Same fuel mileage. Opinions???? Thanks 2004.5 Ram 2500 5.9 Cummins 233k

Sounds like it’s time for injectors. The WTS light indicates a high return flow issue.

What did they flash it for? All 04.5’s are 50 state motors.

Like I said, 50 state motor so there isn’t a specific Cali flash.

It likely was the same flash everyone got, and it enabled the WTS light for high return flow. I better you book up a scanner there is a P1222 and/or P1223, even if you don’t have an active CEL.

Some other details are, I feel a flat spot when accelerating from a stop (give more throttle its gone), when driving on the fwy I will feel a the engine lose slight power then pick back up.. the boost gauge will drop then pick back up especially when going up a hill I can feel the boost drop off then pick back up, now when on cruise control I don't have this problem. hmmmm where to start

Scan for codes, but you likely need injectors.

The flash was probably to show monitors or the latest as I recall to use the Std light to warm of injector return flow high

Just bite the bullet and slap a set of fresh injectors in it. Any time you have the wait to start light come on while driving, it means the high pressure pump cannot keep up with fuel being bypassed by the injectors.

The flash was for the monitors, took 3 dealerships to finally get it done free. I provided the tsb showing what needed to be done and they just wanted to argue it was ridiculous...

Definitely agree on BBi. Haven’t put mine in yet, but the service is unbeatable. Martin and team are the best!
