Well I just wanted to tell you guys that I rode in one fast truck the other day. I went down to Bradenton Florida for the races the other day and they were racing quite a few Cummins trucks there. There were some really nice trucks. One that caught my eye was an old, well worn truck. . a '95 regular cab 4x2. The paint was peeling off of it and the odometer showed 249,000 miles on the odometer. This truck was running 13. 5 second quarter mile times! What a sleeper. For those not familiar with quarter mile times let me just say that most production cars cannot come close to that figure. I believe the guy told me it had 500 horsepower and something over a 1000 foot pounds of torque. Well after the race I was kinda hanging out with these Cummins fanatics and the guy with this truck offered to take me for a ride. First of all it was an automatic but he had a toggle switch on the dash that would lock up the torque converter. Oh yeah... he said he had changed the valve body and something else on the transmission. Well I got in the truck. It idled and sounded like any other Cummins goin' down the road. Well the guy flips the toggle switch to lock up the torque converter and punched it. Wheeeeeweeeee!!!!! Man I have never been pressed back so far and so hard into a seatback in my life. This thing had major power! It made my stock Cummins feel like a detuned powerstroke with waterery fuel. We made a U-turn and when we took off from a standstill, the back end was fishtailing like crazy. I was praying for a powerpuke or a maxipad but I guess they were all at home parked under the shade tree.
One other thing... the guy that was responsible for putting this nasty beast together had a 10. 5 second quarter mile Cummins but this was strictly a race truck. It started out as a 2500 4x2 and still had the original frame. His daily commuter was a Dodge Dakota (Yes I said Dakota)... WITH A CUMMINS! Man this was a fast truck too. I don't remember what the quarter mile time was but it was dang fast. You are probably wondering how the engine fit. Well naturally it was a tight fit, but the guy had relocated the cooling system to the bed of the truck. The guy that had this truck and the 10. 5 second Cummins owns Garmons Diesel Performance in Georgia. As a matter of fact I think most of the guys there were Georgia boys. They seemed to know a thing or two about making a Cummins go.
Sorry to be so long winded but thought someone might be interested in all of this.
