I don't know what they were called them but I remember see them.

I know exactly what your talking about, they were somewhat popular back in the 70's. The only ones you see now are in rough condition, and I don't of anyone that is making them.

As far as plains to make one, there probably scarcer than hens teeth. If you wish to make one and have some skills it would not be a complicated project.

Good Luck. Pete

I ordered one like you described for a camper on a new pickup in about 1982 when I lived in San Diego. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the camper manufacturer now. A SoCal TDR member might be able to produce a name. As I remember, the units were typically carpeted and some were mounted on a sheet of plywood and the entire unit could be removed and stored in a garage.

Calen Campers is an old camper manufacturer in greater San Diego, El Cajon I think, and still in business last time I checked. Try their website or look up their phone number on switchboard.com and call them. They build a high quality aluminum framed unit. If they don't offer the camper kit they may know where to find a plan or may be able to tell you who made or still makes the unit you are looking for.

Cowboy,

When the website notified me that you had replied I looked back at the name I provided again. I kept looking at it when I wrote it and again after you replied and kept thinking it wasn't quite right. It wasn't. I looked it up on the internet. The correct name is Callen Campers and the website address is: http://www.callencampers.com.

Years ago in CA there was a camper company named DOLPHIN that made them. Dolphin was a sister company to LANCE. I had a camper exactally as you describe that I bought from Dolphin in 1979. I had to order mine as they were not a standard item. Maybe they will still make them if you placed an order.

Nope Todd that is not it this thing had a bench on both sides and a table that folded down and made a place to sleep but Thank You for Tring for me

I had a Carpet Kit a few years ago well worth the money, well thought out, also well made. I bought mine from a local Camper dealer here in Santa Rosa, CA. the phone # is (707)-584-7141 called "Campways" I believe they have many outlets, if no luck there try,#(707)-586-9633 "Truck Tops USA" perhaps they may be able to give you information. The price I paid (some years ago) was around $300 and well worth it, doubtful if one could make it oneself for the price. No trouble fitting it or removing it, but it does stay in place when travelling, the whole effort well thought out. I enjoyed mine, could even haul my Touring Motorcycle on the truck bed, and sleep on the the carpeted side lids.
