Hokey... . If you look on the donaldson site, it lists 3 CFM numbers for each muffler. LR, MR, and HR. LR is flow at 1", MR is flow at 2" and HR is flow at 3". The donaldson site is not that easy to get around. You basically have to search each muffler to check the specs on it. If you cant find the 40", let me know and I'll try and check for you. It also gives you the sound attenuation in DB for each muffler. The lower that number, the louder the muffler. Here is an example of the one I got.

I looked at all of them and for what you mentioned you were looking for it looks like the right choice to me. if you compare it to the 40 inch the sound attenuation decreases in direct correlation to the given flow in cfm at the same back pressures (eg. , flows 20%more volume at given backpressure in inches of Hg at the same time it is 20% louder) Make a choice based on your main objectives, as usuall there is a trade off requiring personal judgement. I wish I could hear it but, I learned a lot from your posts and the site which brings me another step closer to a final decision. Thanks again.

Hokey... You are absolutely right. Every mod out there has its tradeoffs. For me something that flowed better than stock, and gave a deeper tone was wat I was after. Loud is cool for a little while, but when you are driving cross country towing a trailer, it can get old real quick. Especially when the kids are trying to sleep in the back seat. Anyway, good luck on your quest and let me know what you come up with.

3200 RPM pushes something like 1600 CFM.

That depends on how much air and fuel you're cramming into the engine to reach 3200RPM! It pumps a lot less air in neutral at 3200RPM than it does on a 500HP truck pulling a long grade. It may suit your needs and 99% of the people out there, but I still say overkill is better... thanks for posting these pics because I am definitely going to make sure what I get is straight-thru! :D
