Does this look normal. seems to be some black "dust" that I don't know where it come from.

Nope they aren't beat up, just dirty. from the oil in the filter.



It collects dust.





There is a place world known for their work with turbo's, I'll call them and see what they say about cleaning the blades

I'd say all that dirt is what your K&N let through. I have a stock air filter in my truck. My turbo vanes are spotless.

I'm not a fan of the reusable filters, but the AFE filter look to be a bit better design than the K+N.



You might consider this if you want to stay away from paper elements.

What I want to know is the black dust oily? I have not examimed a ton of these, but the few I have seem with the black dust seemed like the dust was fine and powdery. To me it did not seem like dirt trapped by an oil film. But then how does it stick to those blades while spinning a bazillion RPM's?



Bob is correct with the oil filter debate. There will be those with stock that say no problem, there will be those with K&N or other oiled media, that say no problem. There are those with oiled media that have had problems, and those ( like me ) that say its all because of over oiling and improper installation. There are those that are just nervious about adding oil to the intake path.



I am all fine with each choosing thier own, but I would like to know if there are other explanations, besides the filter debate.

I had put a K&N on my truck a whole back. I checked the turbine about a month after driving with the K&N and found a light black coating on the leading edge of the blades. I cleaned the blades with a little alcohol and some Q-tips. I checked the turbine again the other day (2 months later) and it's still clean. I think my K&N came over oiled from the factory.

Everything is eventually bound to get dirty... . the fact that your air filter has any oil on it at all is not helping matters. Any substance that aids in adhesion of a foreign media can and will lead to an object getting dirtier.



Do this experiment:

Place your hand on your windows... preferably your rear window of your truck. Make some neat designs. . have fun with this... you won't be graded on the lab report. Now drive over a dusty road for a while (pollen works nice too... ). While traveling East as the sun is setting... look in your rearview mirror... . gee whiz, the dust is collecting more readily to the areas with the oil from your handprints.

Criminals hate oil in their handprints... . those detectives are good with dust and Scotch tape!
