i got my silent might muffler yesterday. instructions say to leave the resinator thats above the rear axel. i looked and i have the cat then the walker muffler. no resinator. will this affect the noise level of the muffler? also, which way do i install to quiet down at highway speeds? i thought i read somwhere it's a dual flow muffler. flow one direction it's quiet, the other it's louder. thanks..... james :D

Did you remove it when you put a Walker muffler on ?

Keep the cat on and put muffler with holes forward for silent freeway operation, just like for the regular long wheelbase trucks on the instructions. If you turn it with holes at rear, it will be slightly noisier above 2000 rpm, and a little racy around 1800 rpm. If you use clamps (and hang with wires) you can try both ways before welding anything. With holes in front, locate it as far back as possible. With holes in back, you can slide it forward a few inches. The location of the holes (fore and aft) on your plumbing is more critical than the direction of flow. It depends on what your plumbing looks like after your previous mods.

With your G56 I would put holes at front, since you do a lot of cruising above 2000 rpm.

the dealer switched exhaust my 2004. 5 to this one when i bought it. it must have went with the old exhaust. the muffler i have on now is clamped about a foot before the exhaust pipe ramps up over the rear axel. is that far enough back to put the exhaust? to get it the quietest, put the holes in the muffler on the engine side of the exhaust? thanks!... james :D

I don't know if it is far enough back. If the hangers are welded to the pipe, and you want to just switch mufflers (I don't know how long the walker is), you can try it out with clamps, but I think when you move it that far forward it may be quieter with the holes in the back.

If you just want to do it once, and not experiment with it, move it right at the bend over rear axle and with holes forward, and do whatever other cutting/welding to make it work. This is the quietest way for the long wheelbase trucks (yours).
