I have a 98 Dodge 3500 that did not have the factory tow package. I bought one from the dealer and installed it with no problems. Now I need to install a trailer brake control and that wireing was not part of the package I bought.

An aquaintance that ran an RV supply store told me that there was a plug up under the dash, fastened to the steering column that was for that purpose, and all Dodges had one. I looked where he said and sure enough there there it was. A light blue female recepticle barely peeking over the steering column. What I need is the wire loom or kit that goes from this plug on the column over to the left kick panel where a brake control can be plugged into it.

Im reluctant to splice into any existing circuits not meant for this purpose because it could possibly damage expensive electrical components.

Any assistance or advice will be appreciated.

Your trailer brake controller should have come with a wiring diagam, cut that plug off and use good quality butt conectors to connect your new controller to the trucks harness. At that plug the red/orange wire is your 12v input, light blue wire is output to the trailer brakes, white/tan wire is input from your brake lites, and black/orange is to ground. I used a Napa controller it works real good ,I think it cost around $100. 00 . Well good luck,

anyone you know have a dodge truck? they should have the male half in their glove box. i'll look i may have a spare.

Uncle Rupe, what brake controller are you going to use. The Prodigy has available a pig tail that plugs into the truck and then directly into the Prodigy controller, no wire connectors required. If you want to wire it your self, go to the dealer and spend the 20 bucks for the Dodge pig tail. Watch out though, the Dodge colors do not match the colors on most controllers. Top rated: 1. I use a Prodigy and love it. It is so far superior to the old pendulum style I used to have. Especially after one pivot of the pendulum broke. Made for some, uh, exciting braking! One of the nice things about the Prodigy is that it doesn't have to be perfectly level to work well. Don't know about the others. Good luck w/your wiring.
