Installed 4" exhaust

Installed my full 4" exhaust from Diesel Dynamics on Friday. All I can say is, WOW!!! I love the sound. It came with a stainless resinator tip which takes alot of the raspy sound out at idle. You can hear the turbo through the exhaust alot more as well. I'm very happy!Oo. Oo.

Muffler

Are you running a muffler with this set up? I'm still trying to find a way to make my 03 sound like my 99 straight piped!

The exhaust came with a muffler. I don't think it's possible to make the '03s sound like the older models because of the differences in the engine. I put the exhaust on without the resonator tip first but it had too much of a raspy sound. With the stainless resinator tip (which looks great) it sounds awesome. Not too loud at idle but really lets loose when you put the pedal down.

The sound difference can be due to the type of muffler and the type of muffler (or lack of) packing material. There are a lot of mufflers that don't have any packing and they will sound "different" on an 03 Cummins. The type of packing will also effect the sound level and type of tone, we use a ceramic blanket that's almost 2 inches thick and a stainless steel inner wrap that's right at 1 inches thick, together they are almost 3 inches total thickness. They are both compressed to fit in a 1 inch space on either side of the muffler for a total of a 2 inch area, and that dampens the "ugly" sounds and lets the "diesel" sounds thru, for a nice deep rumble tone.
