I installed a 4" magnaflow, turbo back system today on my truck. It was 102 degrees in the driveway but I just had to put it on. It fit well but the two pipes that they supply to go between the down pipe and muffler weren't the right length to "direct install" on my SB Quad. Anyhow, I have a friend that welds stainless steel (builds cryogenic equipment)do a beautiful joint weld of the two pipes then I cut it to fit. I noticed right away better low-end. It has a suttle drone at 2000rpm and above. Hope it isn't too much when I really have my foot in it towing.

I have saved the stocker until I feel that I am going to really like the larger, noisier system. Is there any market for the stock systems? Chris

I gave mine to a guy that is always building things. He'll put it to better use than I will. No way I'd go back after seeing the gain in peak boost.

Chris- You must have been in a REAL hurry to get that puppy installed. I hear that Atascadero gets cooler when the sun sets. :D The drone was an issue a while back, solved by installing angle iron on the outside to break up the resonnance. Is your SS welder buddy any good at making up 3" wind chimes? I threw mine away, same as almost every one else. Greg

Ahh yes, summer time in the Atascadero/Paso Robles area... I sure don't miss that. :p

$400 bucks is a steal for that Magnaflow system. Stainless steel systems usually go for $800-1000 bucks new.

(sidenote: the Jardine is NOT stainless)

EMD, does their system really sound like that? I've probably listened to that clip 100 times over the last year. I really like how it sounds.

I killed the drone........

On my 01 I added a 4" resonator to kill the drone. Never really was to impressed with the sound after that.

On the 02 I put on Rip's system with the allied muffler. Only I fugured if my resonator was mounted forward and killed the drone why not mount the muffler forward and lo and behold it works. No drone! There is no reason to mount it in the stock location. Most sytems I've seen come with two pieces after the down pipe. Just mount it after the first one. Fits in solid even without a front hanger.

I liked the sound of the allied muffler so much I took my magnaflow & resonator off the 01 and mounted an allied muffler the same way. Even with my heavy truck no drone. Just the beautiful roar of the Cummin's under load. :D :D

Allied is just a brand......

Of truck muffler.

Never tried the flex joint. Do a search, some others have. Can't remeber what results they came up with.

Honestly just mount your muff about where the stock resonator would be and no drone.

Flex Pipe

Sounds (no pun intended) like a flex pipe might be a little "draggy" compared to a mandrel bend. (One of the fluid flow lectures that I was concious for. ):)

Exaust noise

I drove to LA yesterday and the system sounded good. It picks up on the lowend better and the noise in the cab isn't objectionable. I think having the 3:54 gears helps as at cruising speed, I'm under 2,000 rpm. Chris
