Ok, So I purchased the combo toolbox/60 gal aux fuel tank from Northern Tool. . nice unit, gravity feed into your Fuel Filler tube. My question is this, do you need a specific filler tube or can you use just any 1 1/2 inch Fuel hose for that... I was thinking of buying a new hose and installing the valve in that and just putting that hose on and taking off the original and keeping it in the event I get rid of this truck. . cause the tank comes with me if I ever get rid of it.

I have made our own 130 gal tanks... we put a 3/8 inch line out the side of the tank and put the line through the bed where the plastic plug is below the window on the drivers side... .

We add an electric fuel pump... . a 1 lb back check valve and a huge fuel filter... .

In the cab next to the brake controller we install the switch for the pump... . the back check valve keeps the fuel from running down hill from gravity into the main tank...

We pull the filler tube from the side of the bed and silver solder in a 3/8" connection...

The fuel goes through the filter, and pump into the filler tube... . when the fuel flow slows down... we change the filter... .

I would guess that 95% of the fuel we use goes through this big tank... .

This is our procedure for all our trucks except for our in town truck which only sees 10 or 12 K a year... .

Hope this helps... .

I bought a grey plastic tee and spliced my aux. tanks line into the stock vent tube underneath. Used a fram G3 fuel filter and ball valve right after the aux. to prevent the gravity feed thing(illegal to have a gravity feed system) and a Holley red pump wired up to a switch that lights up red on my dash when it is on. that way IF I ever get rid of the thing I can just splice the vent line back together and still have everything for the new truck. ( Can we say 4500 or 5500 Cummins anytime soon?)

I've got a 70 gal aux tank and gravity feed kit, both purchased from Northern Tool. Its a great combo... 105 gallons of fuel is just right for me, I'm sure you'll like your set up too. I just spliced the OEM fuel filler neck and installed the gravity fill kit and it works perfect... no pump, no filter, no problems!!!. If I were you I would do the same as I have, and if you trade pickups at a later time, then take your tank and gravity feed kit out and just replace the filler neck with new 1 1/2 hose at that time.

We used gravity feeds for a long time... the problem with them... . is that if you use a filter the fuel runs so slow..... I'd be careful of the plastic tee... . make sure that diesel won't make it hard and brittle...
