Only took about an hour, great instructions and a very nice part. Drastically shortens the throw of the stock lever. Should have come from the factory this way. I highly recommend this part, although you might want to wait for the price to come down or do a group buy. I'm sure once they recover their R & D costs and the sales volume picks up, the price will be better. It is still very much worth it, I could not wait for a group buy. (cost, $250)

I might also add that my truck is 2WD, and under the boot where a 4wd transfer case shifter would go there was NO sound deadener OR carpet; so I added some sound insulation of my own. For those doing this kit that have a 2wd, be sure to get some sound insulation before you start; it did make a difference!

Got to drive it more today, what a difference! It is easier to shift, my wife can shift it easier too, although she will not be driving much, at least I wont have to worry about her grinding the syncros all to heck!

?kit fix notchy throw?

My six speed feels a little notchy (better if you move the gear shift lever over a touch in neutral from 3rd to 4th). Did your 6 sp feel like that? and did this linkage cure that problem? Does it shift a whole lot faster:??

emarsh,

Thanks for the report. Always good to have "1st hand" info (pun intended :p )

My tail is waggin, just gotta figure how to talk the wifey into the $250 price. She just bought me a 66 Chrysler convertable for my birthday and I don't wanna push my luck :D

I just installed my BD shor shift kit yesterday. My two biggest complaints about the transmission were its notchiness and it was kinda finicky about going into reverse and second sometimes. The short shift kit makes it really fun to drive. Besides the shorter shift throw, the transmission doesnt seem as notchy as it was before. It is also less particular about when it goes into reverse and second. I can only attribute this to a change in the shift lever geometry that perhaps gives you a little more leverage on the forks. I agree that they should have come this way from the factory. Wouldnt go back to the old shift lever setup.

This is a dumb question - what makes it a short shifter kit ? Just a shorter "stick" from the transmission to the shift knob?

sorry for the ignorance,

I'd suspect a different ratio along with a shorter stick. Somebody else will clarify things. :)

It's a spacer plate and longer bolts that go on top of the trans. The shifter is longer on the bottom side (to compensate for the spacer) and the top (part you see) is shorter. Because the pivot point is raised, the travel inside the trans is greater, reducing the travel of the stick. There are pictures on a previous post.
