Did a search,

You're right, Pit Bull, there are quite a few people that have experiance with both brands. I think I'll go with the Bilsteins next.

thanks,

simon

PS. I normally like to try the search first, but this was just a spur of the moment question.

"Does anyone know if the Bilsteins are "better" than the Edlbrock? My first mod was going to the Edlebrock IAS shock (about 20,000 miles ago). I've heard alot of good things about the Bilstein. "

I've had both Edelbrocks and Bilsteins on my Ram, HUGE difference!

For whatever reason, Edelbrock uses the same shocks for the 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. BIG BIG mistake. The Edelbrocks are probably great on the 1/2 ton, but suck on the Cummins Rams.

As allways, just my opinion...

Which ones?

Bilstein offers a standard height shock and one for 3" lift. I have 2" leveling blocks in the front - which shock should I buy?

Thanks.

When I called Bilstein they said that the new 3" lift shock should only be used if the truck is lifted 3" or more. Many folks here on TDR have used the stock length shocks with the 2" front end lift and I have not heard of any negative reports. Still I would call and confirm this with Bilstein.

Just had some Bilsteins installed. Yes, they are better than stock. However, I can't say that they are much, much better. Granted, I have a 2wd and I don't spend a lot of time off road. I wouldn't have changed my stock ones if a bushing hadn't gone.

I sometines think peoples enthusiasm is based upon justification for the amount of money spent. FWIW

Thanks a lot Damon.

When I get shocks, more than likely I'll be getting rear ones first as I have Skyjacker shocks in the front now and they work fine. The back end seems to hop around when I hit certain bridge approaches on the freeway - especially when the bridge is diagonal to the road.

I think you will find that the Bilsteins used for the 2WD trucks are not as heavy duty as the 4WD shocks. They use the same Bilstein shocks on the 1500, 2500 and 3500 2WD trucks. There is no way a shock that will work on a 1/2 ton truck should also work on a 1 ton truck. I loved the Bilstein shocks on my 2000 3500QC 4x4 and they made a "big" difference but they are made for the 2500 and 3500 4x4 application "only". But I would not buy the Bilsteins if I had a 2WD, 2500 or 3500 truck. I think more 2WD members need to be made aware of this fact. Sorry you did not know before you purchased your.
