Installed High Idler and HD Idler Pulley

Called Gordon, Practical Solutions Diesel Products on Friday and received my High Idler and Heavy Duty Idler Pulley via priority mail this afternoon

The High Idler came with excellent instructions, OEM connectors, nice switch, and a very well made wiring harness.

I am very meticulous when it comes to installing anything on my “baby”. It usually takes me 2 to 3 times longer than the norm, but I installed the High Idler in less than an hour

Everything was like it should be. A flip of the switch and you’re at 1,200 RPM’s

Installing the Heavy Duty Idler Pulley was also a piece of cake. At the same time I installed the Goodyear Gatorback Belt and guess what? No more chirp

BigDaddy,

The high idler takes the rpm's up to 1180. Sorry for the dumb question, but whats the purpose of this, does this help with warm-up?? Also where did you purchase that Gatorback belt / how much $$ did it set you back. I hate the chirp I get when I turn off my truck. Thanks!!

Should have guessed 1st gen trucks left out again. On my hotshot rig I used an air operated cyl. to keep rpms at 1100. Heat in the cold and ac all summer long. Sometimes that truck was not shut off for 2 weeks at a time.

I am running the cold weather front cover. After approx. 3 minutes of normal idle (750 Rpms) I turned on the High Idler for about 10 minutes and was at approx. 170 degrees.

My concern was cylinder washdown. Maintaining normal engine operating temperature at extended idling should eliminate this condition. The "Big Rigs" have this ability. My High Idler holds at 1,200 Rpms

I read somewhere that Cummins said the engine would maintain this temperature at Rpm’s above 1100. I now can attest to this statement.

I bought my Gatorback belt from Carparts.com and used one of the discount codes posted in this forum. I don't have the part number here, but if you need it e-mail me and I will send it to you.

BigDaddy, Is the HD idler pulley provide more reliability? Where did you find it and what makes it more HD? How much. That's one of those things that I would change and just keep the other in my tool box as a spare. I've only had one idler pulley fail and I was stranded a day and night waiting on a parts store to get one in. I like HD.

Alan,

The HD Idler Pulley is made from steel with replacable bearings. Much better than the OEM Plastic pulley.

With the engine running look at your pully. There is a lot of travel going on there. With Gordon's pulley my travel is about 1/4 of an inch.

IMO, the added mass reduces the travel thus providing better tension to the belt. The plastic one seems to just float.
