I received my new MBRP muffler from Mark and co. yesterday. Since I quit doing exhaust work a few years ago (I hated it), I took the truck to Madhatter Muffler in Alton, Illinois (been going to Gary and his son for years, and they do great work reasonably - charged me $40 for the installation).

Anyway, I immediately noted the seemingly high quality of the muffler and extension pipe... . all the welded-on brackets fit great and there were absolutely no issues with the installation... took 40 minutes from start to finish.

Then I drove to work, about 22 miles of both highway and city... 1st thing I noted was that the quietness was more than anticipated... there is a little roar but really quiet for a performance muffler. When uphill going across the Mississippi river, and the roar got a little louder, especially when I pushed on the throttle a bit... . kind of an unusual sound, but I think I like it.

I topped it off with Mobil diesel and will be checking the mpg next. There seems to be a sensation of increased performance, though slight... especially at 60 mph... seems to speed up to 75 a lot quicker, though it might only be my imagination... .

I'll repost some results after a tank or two of fuel... . Oo. Oo.

Did you get the dual or single exhaust from MBRP? Did you get the test pipe ????

How does it look?? Sorry for asking so many questions, but I just ordered a new dual exhaust in SS from MBRP with test pipe( eliminates cat).

I bought just the replacement muffler, since the 2004. 5 already has a 4" exhaust. I thought about duals, but have heard that the noise level raises...

I did NOT get the test pipe because inSouthern Illinois we have emission tests, plus, again, I wanted the keep the noise level as close to stock as possible... I heard that removingthe cat (besides being illegal here) really jumped up the noise level... . my wife would kill me!!!!

Overall, the muffler and extension pipe I received (since the muffler is shorted than stock) was of a very high quality and the brackets wleded on from the factory fit perfectly... I would do it again in a heartbeat (oops, sorry... . that's chevy talk!!) Oo.

Hey thanks for that, Here in Jeresey we do inspections every 4 years and 3500 diesel pick up's are now self inspected. I am looking for a nice sounding exhaust even if it is loud or louder than stock. I'm glad you like the quality of the muffler I heard that MBRP's are very high quality.

Best Wishes,

Herman

I've been waiting to hear from somebody who had this installed. I've been thinking about doing the same thing myself. I like the idea of it being the same metal as the stock system but wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be too loud. Guess I'll be giving the guys at DPP a call in the next few weeks or so.

I did mine on my back in the yard. 5 minutes with a disc on my dremil to help remove the old muffler (old. . all of two weeks) and 25 minutes for the install of the new muffler including trimming the tail pipe. Great muffler in price fit and sound:)

When I opened the box and looked at all the "stuff", I seriously thought about doing it myself, but I only have a hack saw, no sawsall, no welder, not torch, no lift, etc. , etc. , etc.

So I went to the shop and for only $40, I got it installed... cheaper than the price of a sawsall... .

I just sold a guy with an 03 truck a MBRP "600" muffler replacement kit... And then also a 05 downpipe and cast elbow, add a 36 inch stick of 4inch, and some band clamps, AND poof! - Full 4 inch that sounds awesome (still quite though) and can be assembled for like under $300

I can not say enough good about this kit... Great fit, easy install, and sounds good, and doesn't upset most wives, g/f's etc :)
