I installed my AFE Pro Guard 7 today and now my hood is not lining up correctly on that side. Anyone else have this problem and what did you do to fix it?

I just installed one on my truck with no problems. I did notice that the weather striping is really hard to get on. I had to take a rubber mallet and beat it all the way on. You might want to check and see if that is causing your problem.

Did you get the Stage I or II? I just put the Stage II on mine and did not have any problems with the hood. I just had problems with the filter housing lining up with the intake tube. I finally had to take the two rubber grouments out that the stock filter set in and that helped then I had to drill the housing out some to get the allen screw in on the radiator side on my truck.

Hey, I don't know if you got the 04. 5 version or the 04 version. I installed the AFe kit, with the torque tube on mine as soon as I got it and the hood wouldn't shut, if that is your problem cure it with a dremel and about 30 min. of taking 1 inch off the top of the metal box. Jay

You have the wrong part from AFE, the 04. 5 has the noise blanket under the hood. That is why it wont close correctly. You have one that will fit without the noise blanket. You can either return it for the correct part, cut the top edge down about 1/2 an inch, cut out slits in the noise blanket for the seal to fit into or remove the noise blanket.

I had the same problem, even though it was suppose to be for 04. 5 600. I was too impatient to return so I cut 1" slit in the noise blanket for the AFE housing with rubber seal to fit into. Works fine for me.

Glad to hear that some others had the same problem. I was sure I had the right part number since the directions said it was for and 04. 5. No big deal. I will get the cutting wheel out on Wednesday and take care of the excess. I will start with 1/2". Thanks for the help. :D

I also bought the kit for the 04. 5 and it didn't even come close to fitting with the hood down. I waited for the supposed "04. 5" kit to come out since the 04 was not suppose to fit. Alot of good that did. I did have the right part number for the 04. 5 also. Looks like someone at AFE needs to look at their measurements, because the one I got ain't even close. Dremel tool fixed the problem but if they say it's suppose to fit, I expect it to fit, not for me to have to modify it to fit, especailly for the cost of this system.

BApple, JVolpe and BRuppel I also purchased one for the 04. 5 and had to trim the blanket under my hood as well. I thought I was the only one this had happened to so I never said anything.

Everyone,

you can either take the hour to disassemble and grind the excess or just twist the little black (I dont know what there called) hood adjusters up front and level your hood, I've read that its a common problem with the PG7.

I just adjusted the hood and done with.

that isn't a bad plan, but I would like the body lines to stay stock. With what you are suggesting, the gap would increase on both sides. I will just nail it with a cutoff wheel tomorrow at the shop.

Hey guys if you don't want to Dremel that AFE box I'll tell ya an easy way to know exactly where to cut your noise blanket out. Install the AFE box and the air filter, get some baby powder or white chalk, and put some on the tips of two fingers and generously coat the top of the weather stripping on top of the AFE box. Now GENTLY lower the hood down to the AFE box, if you slam it it WILL warp your hood and create a nasty gap where the hood meets the fender!! Raise your hood back up and you have a pretty white line to cut out. If you got a little sloppy with the powder use a vacuum or an air hose to get rid of the excess powder before cranking your CTD. Make the cut an inch wide or maybe a little more, that way the weather stripping will fit perfectly inside the blanket. I cut mine out with a sharp carpenter's knife. Here's a pic that may be of help... . OH and please don't slam your hood before cutting out the blanket my 04. 5 now has a battle wound :{ ... its minor but I know its there.

For what it is worth I just sent Michael Cain customer service rep for AFE telling him about my opionios of there Stage II with there new design of the intake tube how it fit and what I had to go thru to get it fit as good as it does.

He send me a reply to my email about the fit. I will get the part number off my box tomorrow and get back in touch with him. I will keep you guys posted.

BRuppel, we tried two AFE PG7 stage II's. Had the same problem with both as you. Part numbers were verified via two different vendors. Sent them both back and will BHAF this Spring.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but there's no way I'd be hacking up my new $40K truck because aFe R&D is so sloppy. ONE complaint should have sent them on a dead run to the shop to see where they messed up, and fixed it right now!! Instead, they've got poorly designed product out and reputation being damaged.

I hardly think they have no interest in getting this problem resolved. I am in contact with them now so hopefully we can get something done to correct it.

Guess I got lucky. When I opened the box on mine it said it was to fit 03-04 models and I have an 05. I had heard about this hood shutting problem before but I reluctantly went ahead and opened everything up and started installing it because I was so anxious to get the kit on. Everything went in the truck fine so I gently started easing my hood down while looking up in there best I could and believe it or not the hood shut! :D I will post the part numbers of my kit if anyone is interested.
