Got my Southbend clutch in today, MU 0090 Con 0. I've only driven a little, the pedal pressure is very light, and the clutch is super smooth. We'll see how it does tomorrow, I've got some cars to move.

My stock clutch is not holding the extra power of the PowerMax and the new injectors very well:( and I am in need of a new one. I have seen several posts saying how you guys love the south bend cluthes and I had a couple of questions to ask about them.

1. When you are backing up a load do they chatter and jurk. I do a lot of backing into barns with large loads of hay(might be why the stock clutch is gone) and can't have the thing beating me to death.

2. How expensive are they and are they pretty easy to install. Meaning do they install like a regular clutch, and is there any special tools that I would need to install one. (besides the normal hand tool and a transmision jack. oh and BEER. :D

Thanks for the help

DarrellB, I can't answer your clutch Q's. I installed a two wheel low switch (BD, Bob V and others sell them) to try and make my clutch last as long as possible while backing into those tight spots. Good luck with your problem. I hear Pete at Southbend is a good one to talk to.

1: I backed up just a little today with around 14,000 pounds of weight, no chatter whatsoever. It's real smooth.

2: It was $600 plus shipping. Comes with pressure plate, clutch disk, throwout bearing, alignment tool, and 2 pilot bushings. One pilot bearing is stock, and the other is a Kevlar replacement which you use if your stock bearing has been destroyed like mine was. The flywheel needs to be bored out to fit the replacement. My dad works at a machine shop so I had him do it. Installation went great, no special tools required. I spent about 6 hours putting it together, taking my time. One thing to note, the transmission fluid cost 21. 50 per QUART, so you'll wanna try to avoid losing any.

I drove around 40 miles today with about 14,000 pounds, worked excellent.

Hey Peter

Everyone here seems to be very happy with thier SouthBend clutch and lets face it a happy customer is the best form of advertisement. So as soon as I get the bonous from work I will be calling you and ordering one. By the way what is the phone number for South Bend Clutch?

Thanks for all your help

Nice to see another local around here. I have talked to a friend that installs the Clutches. He lives in Salem his shop is called Mount Motors, he charges $250 for them. That is what he is charging me and everyone else.

You can buy them from BD at 1-800-887-5030. Even thou I have the smoothest Clutch out there (SOUTH BEND) I still use my 2 low for backing my trailer around campsites just to give it a break and to do it with some sort of control, Not that I have ever been told I was out of control. lol
