I am considering installing a Davco 233 filtration system on my 2006 2500 5. 9L cummins.

before I make a final decesion I need to know a few facts.

Can I use it in conjuction with the OEM fuel filter or do I bypass the OEM sytem and just use the Davco 233.

Will the stock in tank fuel pump be able to support this system.

Is there anyone out there who has this system and can give me some advice.

Thanks

If this is the filter with the plastic dome on the top . I work with the 382 version of that filter alot. This type of filter and housing works with the lift pump pulling fuel through the filter . so if you are still running the stock in tank pump that pressurizes the entire system this kind of filter won't work right. If you have a pump outside the tank then you can use it but finding a placed the mount the filter so if can be serviced would be the hard part. Just a side note the new Freightliner Cascadia with the 2010 dd15 has one that the dome is about a foot in diameter . Looks pretty cool but totaly impractical for our small engines we don't flow enough fuel to ever plug that filter

Thanks meanmatt this is the kind of information I was looking for.
I was going to purchase a Davco 233 on Ebay and the seller said it would work on a 5. 9L cummins with either the in tank lift pump or the external lift pump that is on the earlier dodge rams. So what is the best filter for the OEM fuel filter housing. I just replace mine every 3k with a Napa Whick.
Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.

I have a fass 150 system and run the 3 micron filter Fleatguard HF6604. i can put about 20k to 30k a filter because its so big. i could prob run it longer but i dont like to. Also when you change the fuel system to a fass you get a piece of mind that it wont fail! I know you dont have a vp44 like i do but still its nice to know that its there for the long haul!

Well filters for the stock filter cans are all pretty close . The Baldwin pf-7977 is supposed to be a 5 micron. The fleetguard fs-19856 is supposed to be a 7 micron . I buy my filters from my local International truck dealership and they always have one or the other in stock. So I end up flip flopping back and forth. I have never heard anything bad about Napa/Wix filters . As far as change itervuls well I've been sticking with what the owners manual says with no problems .

I bought a Davco 380 from e-bay with the intent of putting it on my 1st gen. Boy did I get a surprise! I never knew how big they are. When it got here I just went "oh". The darn thing is 19" tall and 8" in diameter where the bracket is on it. Needless to say, it's going back on the 'bay. I can put it on the truck under the flat bed, but it'll look stupid it's so huge.
