Installing a brake controller in a '93

Does anyone here use a tow dolly.

Two words (Power Stroke)

I tried searching first and got way too many results to sort thru to try and find an answer so I thought I'd just ask for help. I have a Hoppy brake controller to install in my '93 W250CC and wanted to know how others may have done it. The instructions are kind of vague and I don't want to start cutting wires under the dash trying to find the right one. I don't believe the '93's had the plug from the factory to connect it to so I guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way. Any recomendations from someone who has installed one on a 1st gen CTD would be appreciated. I'm going to be hauling a friends 28' cabin crusier soon and need to get the truck end squared away first. Thanks.

Hoppy Electronic Brake Controller #47225. It's just for occasional use. My boat is a 21' cuddy and it's trailer dosen't have brakes but may eventually trade trailers.

I'm not sure, but I think you are right in that the 1993 does not have wiring ready for this, but it's not real hard to do. If it's like the Tekonsha I installed on my 1970 Ford there are 4 wires-one ground, one battery, one to the trailer brakes, and one to the brake pedal "cold" side when brakes are off. I used a breaker at the battery, because once a fuse is blown and you are coming down a steep hill at high GVWR you are

Sorry I can't be more specific help.

It has red, white, blue and black wires that come from a plug that fits in back of the controller. I'm just a litte unsure of which wire to tap into from the brake pedal wiring, or if there is a better/easier way to hook that up on a '93 truck. Thanks

Tom,

You might try to PM Chuck Goode (CPG). He has a '93 with a Prodigy in it. It replaced an older model Tekonsha. He is pretty expert on what to do for towing with a '93.

Get a 12 volt test light with a Ground clamp on one end, and a ice pick like thing on the other. The instructions show that the wire is the white one-the right one will have 12v positive on it only when the brakle pedal is pressed. You can poke the pick through the insulation or touch the inside of the connector on the brake light switch.

Here is a link to the instructions, although I think you probably already have them.

According to these instructions 1978 was the first year for the truck to be "brake control ready".
