I'm trying to install the cummins Enviroguard breather system and was wondering if any one has had trouble removing he dip stick plug from the block?

I was under there looking at the plug, and the access is a little tight. What tools has any body used to remove the plug? I want to install this kit before I go to all the work and remove the radiator and clean it of all the oil and dirt.

Actually the above posted link is not the correct part number. The Envirogard kit is part number CV50115. I bought it too, and will be installing it too, so I am interesting about it too. From what I have found out using the search on this side, some say it's pretty easy to pry out with flat screw driver. Some say they drill a small hole and thread in a screw and that way it's supposed to be easier to take out. Some plugs are supposed to have a hole in it, so a small screw will fit, so I will look at mine. I want to have mine installed too,so I'll do it soon. It's a great part.
Let us know what you find out.

I knocked mine down into the oil pan with a punch. I made sure I didn't do any off-roading until my next oil change. At the next oil change it was stuck to my magnetic drain plug when I pulled it out.

I'd like to put one on my 01 but the thing is so expensive. Didn't cost me a thing to extend the hose to the axle to prevent the radiator clog issue.

On early model ISB's the plug had no lip over the block so it's very difficult to get a screwdriver blade or anything else to pop it out. Some have had success forcing a coarse threaded bolt into the plug and pull it out. Later model ISB's have a lip the helps. I was trying to thread a bolt into the plug when I pushed too hard and it went into the pan. That was three or four years ago now and no problems have happened. I think there is little to worry about if it goes into the pan.

Don't want you folks getting mad and start flaming me but if you use the search feature within as I just did you will see ~8 posts relating to your questions.

However a post I mad a couple years ago did not pop up where I said I had used a long thin flat blade screwdriver from the bottom up and was able to pop the cap off very easily. :)

You will be very happy after the install. Put it in and forget it. :D

I'll install mine next weekend, don't have time until then. But I do have, sitting in the closet:) Well made set-up. Then I'll wash the engine, and everything should be nice and clean. Can't wait:) I bought mine from Cummins.

Just got finished installing. It took about 15 mins of threading a 8 mm bolt in the freeze plug, and slowly taping it out with a long punch at the head of the bolt. The rest of the job was strait forward. I drove about 300 miles after, and not a single drop of oil.

My next project is to remove the radiator and clean all the oil and dirt from it.

airbus320,
Did you have to remove the mounting bolts and "P" clips holding the electrical wire harness in place? It is suggested to do that in the instructions that are with the kit. I wondered if this was necessary? I will be installing mine soon.

I just got finished removing the radiator and cleaning the front of the engine, lots of caked on oily dirt. I have noticed that it is running a lot cooler now. The breather is holding up very nicely with not a drop of oil.

I tried installing it last weekend but could not remove the plug at the block- very limited space. I have to go to my friends shop and use his lift to raise the truck so I can get it out. I have to find the proper bolt to thread in. Not enough space when laying on the ground and trying to pry it out with flat screwdriver either. What was the recommended bolt to thread in you guys use? Thanks. Ilian

It took about 15 mins of threading a 8 mm bolt in the freeze plug, and slowly taping it out with a long punch at the head of the bolt. The plug can be accessed from below, I had to remove 2 wire clamp to get the harness out of the way. Just take your time and I'm sure you can remove it. Not sure if yours is a 2WD or 4WD? Mine was a 2WD, so no axle to deal with.

Yes, mine is 2WD too. Ok, so I need 8 mm bolt. Thanks. I'll go to Home Depot, they must have it. I hope to do it this weekend. Thanks airbus320. Can't wait to install it and wash the engine.
