I am going to install the new Southbend clutch tomorrow into my '07, 5. 9.
One question I have is , Do I need to remove the shift cover from the G56 or can I leave the nub and just remove the stick? How do you separate the stick from the lower part of the shifter?

The stick unbolts from the top of the transmission. Once you remove the leather boot and then the rubber boot you will see it and it will be straight forward. Four bolts and the shift tower lifts off. When I did mine a cut a square piece of cardboard and used the four bolts to bolt the piece of cardboard over the opening, just to keep stuff from falling in as I was moving the transmission.
