OK, well I got tired of my getrag growl and bought a NV4500 from Enterprise. Just got in some Amsoil gear lube and will be installing the NV4500 this weekend if weather holds and I get over this cold. Does anyone have bits of wisdom they would like to share on the upgrade from a getrag to a NV4500 ?:D Oo.

Kyle

I did one on an 89 W250 , piece of cake . Are you using the Advance Adapters bellhousing?

What are you doing with the Getrag?

The one thing that I might say is pay attention to the details that might make you do it twice, First thing while transmission is on the floor or bench easy to handle, make sure the 5th gear is staked to the mainshaft really good in 5 or more places!!

Second thing, truly evaluate the ability of the clutch to hold the torque your modified engine makes or will make with future mods.

Just looking at your sig you should install a clutch that will hold 1000ftlbs :p

I think the amsoil is a good idea;)

Consider the kevlar pilot bushing!!

Just some of my thoughts

Enterprise took care of the 5th gear nut and it has a fully splined main shaft. I installed a kevlar pilot bearing last year with the new sacs clutch from South Bend Clutch. As for the old getrag I found some metal in the last oil change, it works fine but I intend to give it to a TDR member, its in much better shape than the one he has.

Really! I'm not affiliated w/ Quad 4x4 in anyway... Except, Dan saved my bacon last Summer when my Getrag blew while out West on vacation.

He does awesome work! Check out his conversion kit.

Yes I hear he is good , but I am told Enterprise out of Columbus OH is THE tops in Dodge/Cummins upgrades and performace stuff. I am using a advanced adapters kit to install the NV4500 .

Kyle

Hey Kyle!:)

It's all GOOD!:) Enterprise is definitely a top-notched Cummins Power source!

The only thing I've heard through Dan Guarino @ Quad 4x4 regarding the AA Conversions is that the in early kits had a issue.

The issue was that the crossmember 'spacer' was made of 'square tubing' and would crush in time causing mis-alignment & problems. Maybe this problem has been fixed in the later kits... . I don't know! Just Beware!

The Quad 4x4 piece is a substancially welded quality support.

Just a FYI!

Sorry Brother!

Get a straight answer from Dan @ (406)446-2427.

Maybe it's not a concern anymore... . I know Dan talked to AA about the concern & fix.

My kit was from Dan at Quad 4X4 and it had everything I needed for the conversion. I did decide to modify the rear mount so that I could run a straight pipe. Now the only bends in the system are the 2 45's off the turbo and the bends over the rear axle. She breaths very well now.

Happy trails

Bob:)

Boy this project is going down the drain fast, I unwrapped the plastic wrap from the tranmission and rust everywhere, none of the bear metal was coated to protect against rust ! There is even rust inside the shifter area of the transmission(they did not seal the transmission and there has been some condensation inside)

I WAS told that the tail shaft housing of this NV4500 was supposed to be cast iron, not pot aluminum(light duty POS will be very easy to break with a NP205 hanging from it). So far I am NOT impressed with the quality of the product from Enterprise Performance. As for the mounting spacer, I stood on it and it bent(yes I mean I stepped on it with my weight). I called Enterprise and they said that they don't have a problem with the spacer, and it was up to me to reinforce it. This so far is a half a$$ed chezzy setup and I am NOT happy.     .

Well tomorrow I calling them and something better be done, this POS is not going into my truck ! I have spent way too much time on this truck to do a $2300 jury rig. So I need your guys input ASAP, is this the normal for Enterprise Performance or are they GOING to have a bad day ?

Sorry ...

Hey Kyle!

Sorry about the hassle... Better now than after installation.

Yes! The tailshaft & shifter cover is Aluminum on the NVG4500HD and I've never heard of any problems associated w/ this design. It does help to understand why a proper crossmember support is crucial.

Send it all back if your having bad feelings... .

Call Standard Transmission in Ft. Worth for a fully splined main shaft for 5th gear retention & get a conversion kit from Quad 4x4. :)

OR

Order a Brand-Spankin' new NVG from your local Dodge Dealer w/ a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty. You still won't get the fully splined main shaft but you will get there latest generation of "band-aid" fixes for the 5th gear problem.

Still a big fan of the Quad 4x4 parts regardless!

I hope this helps ease your pain Brother!

Ok, after a few calls to Enterprise got things worked out. I met Doug in Lansing and swapped transmissions(Thanks again Doug) :D. So now I can cool down and get to work upgrading to the NV4500. Going to start first thing Sataurday morning, hopefully will be up and running Sunday. Does anyone have an idea how far back do I need to cut my floor ? The book says around 4 1/2 inches. I plan on mig welding up the old hole before installing the new trans. I also got new carpeting to go in as well.

This one does have a cast iron tail shaft housing.

Crew Cab Carpet

Hey CrewCabDiesel, where did you get the new carpet, and is it form-fit for a crew cab all the way back to the back seat? I have just started to look for new carpet for mine and hadn't located any yet.

I know this is off the main subject, but since you mentioned it, I had to ask.

- Jack

Front piece of carpet is for a 4X4 automatic(the manuals have a side hump), back piece is for a 4X2 automatic. Join the two with a piece of ramcharger floor carpet trim under the front seat. (just the right size !)

Well the transmission is in, much quiter shifter throw is really short compared to the getrag. got to order a new shifter cover for a 97 dodge, old one won't fit right.

Kyle

4 .5 or 5 ok

pw 5 '' will do it then cut a piece of carpet under dash off

plate hole w/ rivets sheet metal tack carpet circle down

put fire extgr on top to cover see mine at MM

ps what kind of oil do the transfer cases take ????????

i forgot its the 93 205 or215 bill
