I would like to install some sort of loud warning alarm that comes on if the warning lamp comes on. While sleeping in the truck (with it idling with the exhaust brake on) I'm a bit nervous that I could loose oil pressure or have a coolant problem and never even wake up until it was too late. I did a search and found nothing. Any suggestions on what I could do here?

Thanks to all you smart fellers :)

how about a 5psi hobbs pressure switch and one of those truck backup alarms... put the 5 psi switch into the oil system somewhere [maybe on top the filter pad?] and put the backup alarm in the cab somewhere... it should be loud enough to wake you up...

Thats a good thought. Any suggestions as to where a good place is to get those presuure switches?

What about the coolant temp. That's partly why I initially was looking at the check engine light. I figured that if I had a thermostat / rad hose problem, the check gauge light would come on once the coolant temp started to get too warm. Do you think this is something I should be considering as well?

You can get the whole thing at a marine hardware store, switches for pressure and temp (high water in the bilge is available if you worry about that in your truck). The bell is kind of loud so you might have a shorts problem if it goes off.

Should be a napa part #701-1575 for normally open hobbs switch and napa #701-1576 for normally closed switch. We use them on aerial trucks for the same purpose and the oil gallery is a good place as there is usually a plugged port somewhere in the system. mike
