Installing BrakeSmart, What to use to seal threads in brake system?, Tape?, Dope?, ??

New BrakeSmart arrived. Need to install T on brake cylinder. What is the way to seal threads in a brake fluid system? I have never opened a brake fluid system before to need to know what to seal threads with.



Teflon tape? Joint compound? Form a Gasket compound? Low temperature thread sealer? NOTHING? The pressure is pretty high potentially (1500#?)

Don't use anything on the threads, those fittings are flare-compression fittings and do not need anything to seal.

Use a flare nut wrench to get a good grip on the nut. Then, when you tighten down the new fittings, snug them up good, then back them off, then snug them up again, then back them off, etc. Do this 3 or 4 times, at least. This allows the flaired end of the tube to re-shape and seal against the tapered fitting. This should prevent any leaks.



I learned about this techique after putting SS brake lines on and had leak problems. The technique worked for me.

About the only time sealers should be used is on pipe thread. Flared anything should never see sealers. Ant his is doubley true in fuel and brake systems.



There are expections, but not many.
