I thought that was a great idea but it looks like my cobra 29 is an inch too long to fit in the old drink tray spot. I'm surprised they made the radio as big as they did.

Battery connections!

I've done many power connections for Ham/CB/Audio applications.

You are always better off, from a noise standpoint, to make direct battery connections.

The two big batteries we have in our trucks (in parallel), act as one big battery, and it does not make much difference which one you connect to. Ease of connection should be your primary concern.

There might be a very small noise level reduction (recieving) by connecting to the battery not directly connected to the alternator which can be a small noise factor.

Direct connections are the way to go.

For anyone else following this thread, I did end up doing the direct connection and it is really clear. *thumbs up*

Also I ended up making a custom mount that allowed me to mount the radio to the top of my dash - looks good and functions even better. We'll see how it holds up to the sun.

OK. Now what about the antenna and cable? Whats the best way to hide the cable and where do you mount the antenna? Thanks

My antenna is mounted using the dodge hood mount (sold by firestik and other manufactures too I think. I chose a Firestik 2 for the antenna and spent about 2 hours routing everything. Poked the cable through the wire-harness boot/hole in the firewall and it leads directly to the antenna.
