So I am going to install my westach combo gauge in the morning. Genos says to get power from the cigarette lighter and the dimmer wire. Has anyone put a fuse inline with the gauges or just not worried about it? Is the cigarette lighter the easiest power access or should I just go through the firewall to the fuse box?

Thanks,

Joe

Its strictly your preference on where to get power from but I have mine hooked up in driverside fuse panel. You dont need an inline if you use a "piggyback" connector that fits on your fuse. Just make sure you put it on the right side of the fuse and if anything happens the fuse will blow in the panel.

I used the cigerette lighter feed with no extra inline fuse. I removed the lighter to put the fuel pressure gauge in its place so the cig lighter fuse is only powering all my gauges. Save yourself the hassel of going through the firewall for power. I know the second gens had the fuses inside the cab and was a little easier to get to. I don't recall reading where anyone had problems using this power source. After having said that, you need to do what makes you feel comfortable with your install.

Theirs not really a need for a inline fuse if you pull current from the cigeret lighter, because i believe the cigerete lighter is already fuse protected. If to much current is pulled in that circuit, the ciggerete fuse would blow or whatever it's labeled under. I have my guages powered through it and no problems.
