Installing Gauges

I ordered the DiProcals from that Diesel Performance place in Utah. Came right away, but did not have any instructions. Using the steering column mount, I guess you don't use the backing screws - you just push the gauges in?



Question: you guys using the steering column mount - did you use the double sided tape or the drill and plastic plug method?



I got the bolt with the hole through it for picking up boost. Where do you mount that on the engine?

Went tape route first, then added the plugs in a effort to stop the buzzing noise, apparently the noise is coming from the column itself!!

Piers has a pic on his web site of the bolt location - its on a second gen but it would be the same.

By the way, Piers' toll free number in the TDR "links" has been disconnected. Does anybody have a new toll free number for him?

I'd like to thank everyone for their comments on gauge installation, both here and in other threads. The information I learned here on TDR really helped when it came to installing my gauges.



I installed Auto Meter Z series (black faced) pyrometer and boost gauges in the Auto Meter steering pod mount. I chose black faced gauges rather than one of the various models of white faced gauges because, being closer to my face than the rest of the gauges, I didn't want them to stand out too much. I did have to replace the bulbs in the gauges with some from Radio Shack, though, because the bulbs were so dim. With the green filter on them they were nearly unreadable at night (and they weren't much better without it). The Radio Shack bulbs fixed that right up.



The gauge pod was a perfect fit. I chose to use the plastic plugs to hold it on. I figured I already drilled two big holes for the wires so four little ones weren't going to hurt anything. Plus, I expect this to be permanent. I do wish they had a pod made specifically for manual shift trannys, though, so it didn't have that cutout for the shifter. In any case, it looks pretty darn good.



I chose to go with post-turbo for the pyro. I have no bombs and wanted the pyro for cool-down. If, in the future, I change my mind I can put a 1/8 NPT plug in the hole in the elbow and drill and tap a new one in the manifold.



Anyway, thanks again for all the help and suggestions provided. It made the job much much easier.

I got my new gauges in and everything hooked up except the pyro probe. I'll do that as soon as I get the time. So far, I just used the doubled sided tape to mount the pod. I used the Turbo Boost Gauge fitting to pick up boost pressure. Please see the pictures below.
